Publisher's summary

Have you ever seen a planet invaded by rampaging space mutants from another dimension or Nazi dinosaurs from the future?

Don't let this happen to you!

Rifts happen, so you should be ready when universes collide. A policy with Stranger & Stranger can cover all of your interdimensional insurance needs. Rated "Number One in Customer Satisfaction" for three years running, no claim is too big or too weird for Tom Stranger to handle.

But now Tom faces his greatest challenge yet. Despite being assigned the wrong - and woefully inadequate - intern, Tom must still provide quality customer service to multiple alternate Earths, all while battling tentacle monsters, legions of the damned, an evil call center in Nebraska, and his archnemesis, Jeff Conundrum. Armed with his Combat Wombat and a sense of fair play, can Tom survive? And will Jimmy the Intern ever discover his inner insurance agent?

It's time to kick ass and adjust claims.

Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck) performs Larry Correia's madcap interdimensional tale of underwriting and space travel, where the only thing scarier than tentacle monsters is a high deductible.

Someone owes me a new keyboard

This is the funniest thing I've heard in years, and Adam Baldwin's performance only makes it better. His mastery of the Manatee language is unparalleled. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to listen to it again.

Most Unlikely Hero Ever!

I just finished listening to this and am not quite sure what hit me.

Larry Correia has invented the most unlikely hero ever: an insurance agent dedicated to satisfying his customers' insurance needs because poor customer service is the ultimate sin. If you can suspend your disbelief and wrap your mind around THAT wild idea, you are in for an equally wild ride.

Garfield the Cat is a Dark God, Bear Grylls is a metric, Chuck Norris is a KickA** Arbiter and Terminators are people too. Many of our favorite sci-fi heroes and shows make cameo appearances, including the author himself.

Of course the hero has his burden to bear: the intern with the gender-studies degree. But Tom Stranger carries on with panache.

Adam Baldwin was terrific. You need to listen to this. Now.

If Alex Jones tried to write a Tek Jenson novel

A great idea that quickly degenerates into an endless series of conservative dogwhistles masquerading as punchlines within a story that thinks it's cleverer than it is.

A diatribe of the author's political views

Larry Correia's politics are an actual subject of discussion in SF circles - google "Larry Correia politics" if you don't believe me. Frankly, I don't care. His views are his views. My views are my views. If we agree, fine. If we don't, fine. I read and listen to SF for enjoyment, relaxation, escapism, etc. I've listened to his books in the past and really enjoyed them. This one, however, devolves into a screed against liberal politics and millennials. If I had wanted politics, I'd have read the news. Frankly, if I hadn't gotten this one as a monthly freebie, I'd ask for my money back.

What did I listen to?

Want a nerdy sci-fi story that makes fun of nerds? How about a story that slowly reveals it's politics til that is all? it started out all so well, but sad is reduced to celebrity cameos and jokes as it runs to the finish line.

Funny but a little over the top

Not sure if right wing or right wing satire. Funny though. Thick skins required to enjoy the book. Sounds like Sean Hannity hired someone with a sense of humor. Much eye rolling along the way.

Do not drink coffee while listening to this

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is the second funniest thing ever after that killer joke from Monty Python! It is totally ridiculous and hilarious. As a devotee of comedy of the absurd I immensely enjoyed both the story and Mr. Baldwin's reading.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Free: The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent?

R. Lee Ermy as the secretary of defense! 'Nuff said!

Have you listened to any of Adam Baldwin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he does a fantastic job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too many to list in the space provided

Any additional comments?

Got weirdly political

What started out as a pretty ridiculous and cheesy - but fun - inter dimensional romp got oddly political. I understand if an author has political views he wants to express, but toward the end he just seemed to cram in all of his dislike for the Obama administration into the story in a way that made no sense. The story was already barely hanging on by a thread but his addition of politics took it from fun ridiculousness to being forced to read a drunk relative’s Twitter rant. I’m a little sad because I was having fun listening and giving the occasional eye roll until the last half hour.

Unnecessary political jabs

The first time I was like "did he really just say that?" and the second time I was like "this seems like a fine time to move on to something better."

Overall, this isn't bad. Overall, it isn't good either. Total fluff piece that takes time to protest the fact that we only got one season of Firefly. Quite a few laugh out loud moments. Straightforward, predictable and without any real tension or suspense, it's good popcorn listen if you can get past the author's political cheap shots.

But, I can't, so moving on. According to other reviews, if I'd kept listening I'd have a far more negative review. Sounds like it gets much worse. (P.S. Very short for the price.)

funny and short

Adam Baldwin did a fantastic job reading this book! Many voices, sound effects, and very enjoyable to listen to. The story itself made me laugh out loud. The alternate worlds and the famous names mentioned, made it funny.
