The ending of the start of the apocalypse is upon us and Ashley Fontainne once again out does herself. At first, when I started book 4, I kept thinking that I should have gone back and listened to the 1st 3 books again so I could remember the characters. However, she does a fantastic job of reminding us of who everyone is. You really do need to read the entire series, though, since each book really do not stand on their own. (I'm still going to go back and listen to them all back to back...because they are just THAT good)
Ashley brings it all together when she explains the role of each person (ourselves) and their individual responsibility as a person of society, but, also the HUGE role of the government. Makes me stop and take a hard look at the reality we are living in. Can we do anything about it? Probably not, but at least we can go into things with our eyes wide open, scary as it can be. The ending...well...was perfect. There were sacrifices made that were good sacrifices. And, in the end, the relationships that survived were good ones. Some wrongs were made right and that is all we can ask for.
As I said, I listened to the audio book version of this, and all of this series, books. Rebecca Roberts is undoubtedly one of the best narrators out there. She has a way of drawing you in and make you forget you are being read to, but are actually a part of the story in a 'fly on the wall' kind of way. Her character voices are right on for both the male and the female voices and she brings the story to life when you can feel the fear, the anger, the disgust and the love. That is a true talent few narrators have.
All in all, I recommend this book, this series, this author (you should read all of her books!) and this narrator (she is ALWAYS this good!).
