Publisher's summary

Dr. Everett Berning achieved his life's work by discovering a cure for drug addiction. Unfortunately, the formula was stolen and fell into the hands of the enemy.

Drug lords from around the world unknowingly released the altered, deadly formula into their supply, affecting millions across the globe.

Within 48 hours the entire planet was thrown into chaos as the disease spread.

Regina Parker, chief of police of the tiny town of Rockport, Arkansas, isn't willing to let the military kill thousands of innocent people in a rush to contain the outbreak. She leads a small contingent of survivors on a dangerous quest to keep her town safe from the soldiers and the dead.

Will Dr. Berning be able to isolate the contagion and find a way to reverse it, or is it too late to save humanity from the tainted cure? How far will Chief Parker go to save the lives of others as the world collapses around them?

is mainly an exciting dystopian thriller + zombies

The Rememdium series started off with Tainted Cure, which should be read prior to Tainted Reality, as this continues where the first book ended.

Following the outbreak and the collapse of civilization, one group of survivors is heading for the local Walmart thinking this may be a safe place to hide out. Part of the military is trying to continue their rather unconventional way of erasing the entire problem. Meanwhile, Dr. Everett and his group are back in the lab trying to figure out what happened with the cure and what to do next. New characters are introduced and storylines are starting to merge. It’s very difficult to say much more without spoiling the story.

However, this was one gripping, suspenseful tale that had me smiling one minute and tearing up the next. The fate of one character, in particular, had me totally gobsmacked. Not in a million years had I expected that Ashley Fontainne was going to go there. I’m actually amazed by how invested I am in these characters already. Once I got halfway over that heartbreaking shock, I found myself shouting at another character “No, don’t do it!” a little later. Seriously, I don’t usually get carried away, but there is something in the way the author creates these people that you feel deeply connected to them.

There is obviously a good bit of zombie action with blood and gore, but while Tainted Reality is mainly an exciting dystopian thriller, Ashley Fontainne also quite cleverly inserts a few philosophical aspects, which make you ponder life and beyond. Simply brilliant.

Don’t miss out on this series just because it may not be your usual genre, it certainly isn’t mine, but the plot and the characters have so much depth, you can’t help but get hooked on it. Tainted Future, part 3 of the series, is due out in June and already on my wish list. Can’t wait! Great writing!

Rebecca Roberts’s narration is simply outstanding. I’m in awe by the range of voices she comes up with and manages to stick with throughout. These characters really come to life and you can visualize the story as if you were watching a movie. For a female narrator to make the tough guys sound so male and believable is just incredible. There were no issues with the production.

This book picks up where the 1st one left off, they are on the way to the Walmart to haul up and try to wait this disaster out, the military have orders to assassinate anyone who is not tested to try and contain this virus....it becomes an all out war within this town of Rockport, and the town people win! Well the Walmart doesn't work out, so a new plan is to get to a secure cave that has been prepped for this sort of occasion! In the mean time Dr Berning has some military guys go out to find him an infected so he can try and figure out whats going on, they come across a pack with some of the magic powder that started this fiasco...One of the men partakes, and his friend has to kill him, but now they know what caused this...and Dr Berning can try and save the world!!!!

Tainted Love for Rememdium

As follow ups go this is a real knock out! Book One started us in on the outbreak caused by the tainted cure that is quickly wiping humanity off the map. Book two takes us on a journey for survival with the additional burden of a search for the cure to the cure. A cure to end all cures maybe harder to find with all the destruction, death, and living dead that now fill the world, but that isn't going to stop the survivors from trying. I will say, that things don't look so good, and that this may be the end of our species as we know it.

First of all, this is a brilliant concept for the zombie genre, it is original and as fresh as an hour old corpse. This helps differentiate this from all of the hundreds of other zombie novels out there. That is amazing to me, because 15 years ago I could hardly find any real novels or series that took place in a zombie apocalypse. Nowadays everybody's next door cat has a zombie story to look at. Fontainne is one of those tricksy writers who misleads you in one direction only to have the real action happen somewhere else.

One thing I like is that Fontainne gives us four groups to follow as they try to figure out how to stop this medical miscarriage. Ashley knows that you need a plethora of characters to work with, because there is going to be a high attrition rate. As I said in a prior review of the first book, this book does not skimp on the blood, guts, and gore. It is a bucketful of chum ready to be dumped over your imagination. So be prepared, as this series aint for the squeamish.

Roberts is one of my favorite female narrators, and to say that after one book tells you how good she is. She plays men and women equally well, and manages to pick up the pace when the action demands it, and subtly amp up the tension with just her voice. She really takes this story and runs away with it.

This is fantastic set of books to get started on, Don't miss out!!!!! Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Keeps getting better

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Regina and Marlene scene when everyone had to abandon Wal-Mart

Any additional comments?

I wish these books were longer. I still think this series is one of the better zombie stories. Very good performances by the narrator. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Excellent!!!!

This is book 2 so may contain spoilers for book 1, though I do try not to post any!!

This edition sees the group trying to reach the the local Walmart, believing they will be safe there for the time being. But when the military hear word of this, they are willing to do all they can to take out the untested. I can't really say much more without spoiling things for you, so all I'll say is wow, this was an emotional rollercoaster!! Loyalties are tested, friendships made, lives lost and a whole lot of Zombie action!

Once again, the author takes this to another level. The pot of this one is incredibly fast paced and gripping. In book one, the scene is set but here we see the devastation that it has caused. We also see the doc responsible for the cure witnessing just what he helped create, albeit unwillingly. The author gives just enough blood and gore to satisfy the zombie lovers but she also creates a story you become invested in and characters that will capture your heart. There isn't one negative thing I can say about this book and I'm more than looking forward to book 3!! Bring it on!!!!

Ashley Fontainne never fails to deliver in her writing! This author can spin one hell of a tale and always throws in twist after twist. I have never failed to be awed by what happens and I honesty think she is one of the most overlooked authors. I HIGHLY recommend her work and hope that more people read them!!!

Rebecca Roberts is amazing. Truly a great narrator and she never fails to deliver. Highly recommend both this book and this narrator.

So Good!

Part two of this amazing story is soooo good! Yes, it is a zombie apocalypse saga, but it is so much more! Part social discourse, part horrifying dystopia, and part public service message, this story has a depth and breadth that completely eclipses modern horror and enters this story into Classics territory. (Of course, I mean that 'banned' books list that everyone is clamorimg to read, lol!) Fontainne is a master of the written word, and has chosen the versatile Roberts to bring her words to life! A very good choice! Her ability to create personal voices for each character is unparalleled in the indie book world, and really hard to find in even the most famous voice actors. Scary, emotionally draining, and even nauseating, at times, this is a brilliant series. I am looking forward to the rest of the series!

Stunning

What did you love best about Tainted Reality?

The way it is absurdly realistic in what might happen

What did you like best about this story?

The realization of characters that they are flawed

What about Rebecca Roberts’s performance did you like?

The ability to express emotion in the voices of so many characters

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was saddened by the death of one of my favorite characters.

Any additional comments?

This book was provided free of charge in exchange for a review.

This book was fast passed and full of very exciting scenes. Many times I expected characters to succumb to their own weakness but then stumble through the moment.

I liked the ability of the author to express the viewpoints of many characters and see the world from their point.

The narrator was excellent and very good at being able to be understood. The expression of fear and anger was well done regardless of the character also.

Zombies II

Would you try another book from Ashley Fontainne and/or Rebecca Roberts?

I would consider a non-zombie story from Ashley Fontainnne, and I'm definitely hooked on the voice talents from Rebecca Roberts!

Has Tainted Reality turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes, I think even zombie movies are a stretch, but the story book telling of a zombie genre leaves a lot to be desired.

Which character – as performed by Rebecca Roberts – was your favorite?

Is it Jessie? The character who had to watch her mom die.

Was Tainted Reality worth the listening time?

No, it's my opinion that a written zombie story, even narrated, just isn't what it could be.
