Publisher's Summary

Aidan "Scratch" Sullivan is a former army ranger and Afghanistan War vet trying to achieve some semblance of normalcy while he deals with the psychological aftereffects of two combat tours in the 'Stan.
But when the bombs fall and the dead walk, Scratch is forced to risk life and limb to rescue his aging parents before zombies overrun their quiet community. And to do it, he'll need to traverse half the state of Texas while dealing with out-of-control military units, violent redneck looters, and all manner of evil things that go bump in the night.

Tourists are idiots, liberals are idiots, everybody is an idiot except the know it all main character. He is a prepper and like most preppers, he is a god. It is too weird to call Zombies, Zombies, but it is great to call them DEADERS. l did not make it to the aliens, I didn't care for the main character.

The narrator is different, listen to sample.

This is not your average zombie apocalypse

I read the Scratch Sullivan episodes 1-4 quite a while ago so I was excited to see Invasion which is Scratch starting at day one. The zombie getting the jump on him from the beginning is exactly how it would feel if we were to ever have a zombie apocalypse. They've seen George Romero films in this world but still you're not just going to shoot someone in the head because they look odd, even if you do live in Texas.

Although I do not really remember the beginning of the episodes, I wish I would have started with this one. The episodes took me a lot to get into and the narrators drawl was driving me crazy. Now, I find it synonymous with who Scratch is and I couldn't wait to start this up!

Invasion is only 199 pages so it is a great beginning book. I have to admit to being thrilled from the beginning all the way through to the end. There's just something about this one that the episodes could not do. Plus the fact that I already know Scratch, listening to his and the apocalypse beginnings was right up my alley.

This is not your average zombie apocalypse either. Everything that could hit the fan, did. There's not a lot of explanation as it is written from Scratch's point of view, so we only know what he knows and he doesn't know a lot. Although he was fortified in his bunker it made sense as to why he was there, unlike many stories of survivors that just get really lucky. The weird thing about this is that there are more than just zombies. As if they are not enough to deal with. Scratch is learning how to kill all sorts of crap but he's ready for the job!

I'm pretty sure it's the same narrator, S.W. Salzman, and I was so glad to hear him. The narration was spot on. What I enjoy the most was that many narrators tend to go overboard with emphasis when reading apocalypse stories. S.W. Salzman gets it right. He sounds freaked, surprised, or downright annoyed at times. S.W. Salzman makes this sound easy! The rest of the audio was just as fantastic. All the effects and zombie sounds really add to the story. I was excited to hear that it was another production.

Great starter book. I immediately picked up book two!
