Publisher's summary

Sam and Jane Archer walk out of a backcountry hiking trip into a living nightmare. Their car is vandalized and dead, along with every other vehicle in the trailhead parking lot. Unable to get a cell phone signal, and spooked by a threatening encounter - they resign themselves to a long hike home, suspecting a possible EMP attack against the United States.

What they discover along the way shakes them to the core!

The electrical grid has been down for two weeks, plunging the world as they once knew it into complete chaos. Citizens live in helpless terror of violent gangs, who have declared war on the police and claimed all essential resources for themselves.

Little hope remains, as Jane, a local police officer, and her husband Sam, a military veteran, start the harrowing journey home to save their only daughter Lea - before she is consumed by the madness.

This book sucks.

I've not been into post apocalyptic fiction very long. And I understand that most of this dime rack prepper porn in pretty much nonsense to start with. But this takes it to a whole new level of stupid. There is no way in hell that two towns worth of highly trained American police officers and military veterans would ever run from a mob of disorganized thugs and criminals. This whole premise disgusts me and the story writing is sluggish, slow, and woefully predictable. The worst part of this whole stinking pike is the part in the neighborhood where you had a well armed group consisting of two police officers, one fleet marine, and one force recon marine are hiding scared from three or four thugs. This author is suckage incarnate.

Good story & a good start to character development

This one's not an action packed or fast paced thriller yet but I definitely see good character development in the works.

The story is in its early stages & we're just getting to know the heroes & protagonists. I'm looking forward to following along in the adventure.

I'm looking forward to the next installment.

800 prisoners escape after "Lights Out".

There were some dull moments and traditional dystopian fiction but there is a redeeming quality also. I would recommend this read.

Terrible Author

I finish most books I start, but not this one. Don’t write about topics you clearly know nothing about. Gross errors by the author and the continuous sheer stupidity of the main characters is just too overwhelming. Good grief!

Wasted credit

I’ll keep this short and sweet as I am far from a professional critic. I thoroughly enjoy apocalyptic style books however this was an absolute waste of a good credit.
From the start of chapter 1 the reactions and actions of each character was completely unbelievable.
The truth is I couldn’t get a past chapter 2.
Who would I recommend this book to? They answer to that question is simple, absolutely no one.

Three chapters away

I love it! Totally different from my usual zombie reading, a story well written with story lines from each characters. The narrator was great. Can't wait to listen to the second book when it becomes available.

Exciting read

Read this book quickly, liked the short chapters. Can't wait to read the next one. It was exciting and had a good plot. Would have liked a better ending ... but definitely looking forward to sequel.

An ok story

The book was not fast paced and only had several exciting moments. The author was more concerned about development of the individual characters and their relationships. Book was ok,but not exciting. Lucky it was not expensive.

Very disappointing!

Very disappointing!
After trying to listen to 1/2 of the book on my 1 to 2 hour drive to work and back everyday I just couldn't stand to listen anymore. It might be ok for a kid but not for anyone who has any common since prepped since!
