Jerky horrible narration.

I messed up and got another book with this narrator. He is horrible and I don't think I can listen to the book. He can't just read......the book without these odd.......jerky pauses that don't ........belong in the story. I can't believe anyone would pay him to read their books.

The Volcano that Didn't!

I was absolutely geeked for this book. I'm a long-time visitor to Yellowstone and was excited to hear Harry Turtledove was applying his incredible mind to the effects of its possible explosion.

The volcano did explode. But, the way Turtledove describes it, it really didn't matter. The characters aren't really effected. In fact, so much of the book deals with the characters going about their life with the slightest alteration. The volcano is such a background element. There was no excitement, no adventure, nothing thrilling. Near the end of the book, Turtledove gets distracted by a gynecologist visit and proceeds to describe the visit in detail. Earlier, but not much, two lead characters have lunch and order a BLT . . . a volcano just exploded and the characters don't really care!

Vanessa's story was the only one that seemed at all interesting but it simply went no where.!

This was horrible. I'm hoping this was just a fluke book for Turtledove. Please, please, if you haven't bought this, stop -- don't waste your money.
