Publisher's Summary

Captain Keyes is loved by the public but hated by Command. He captains the UHS Providence, an aging supercarrier and the last human ship not dependent on dark tech - technology humanity has used to rule over the galaxy since barely defeating the Ixa in the First Galactic War.
Dominance has come at a cost. Over the decades, old allies have grown resentful, and when dark tech itself fails, Captain Keyes's predictions start coming true: those old allies are now enemies.
But Keyes is not the only one proven right. As the galaxy plunges into war, the Ixan Prophecies are being fulfilled, one by one. Humanity's oldest enemy is on the rise, with weaponry never seen before.
The fate of the galaxy now depends on Captain Keyes, his tired ship, and his oddball crew. It doesn't pay to be right.

Was completely lost and didn't care.

Normally I have no issues with any book's. But found this one hard to follow. Even restarted halfway through, thinking it was me. It wasn't. I was still lost and didn't care about anyone in the book.

I didn't get the hook...

The synopsis read like it would be great but somehow I didn't catch on or get hooked. I fell asleep listening to this book 4 different times & cannot remember the main characters name even to this day...
Maybe you'll like it but for me it was "meh."

Awful

This is dreadful. Really, really poor stuff. I'm a fan of military sci-fi, but I really struggled to get any enjoyment out of this. The shallow characters were the worst aspect, but the sheer ridiculousness of the whole novel was at times cringeworthy. I'm not given to bad reviews and I really try hard to find merit in everything I listen to, but this has nothing with which to commend it whatsoever. Avoid like the plague.

Promising start

If the next two books are as good then this will be an excellent triolgy.

As with most narrated books it has taken me quite a few goes to finish it, I find them quite soporific.

The story is well told and the characterisation is great.

No doubt the next two will follow, though I have several other titles to listen to first.

Average

Short choppy paragraphs, with lots of action. An average story line with flat characters. Still, it kept me going and it's okay for what it is.

Ordinary

little point to the story. have no desire to see if the hero wins, let alone how.
