Publisher's summary

Master and apprentice.

The Force is strong in 12-year-old Anakin Skywalker...so strong that the Jedi Council, despite misgivings, entrusted young Obi-Wan Kenobi with the mission of training him to become a Jedi Knight. Obi-Wan - like his slain master, Qui-Gon - believes Anakin may be the chosen one, the Jedi destined to bring balance to the Force. But first Obi-Wan must help his undisciplined apprentice, who still bears the scars of slavery, to find his own balance.

Dispatched to the mysterious planet of Zonama Sekot, source of the fastest ships in the galaxy, Obi-Wan and Anakin are swept up in a swirl of deadly intrigue and betrayal. They sense a disturbance in the Force unlike any they have encountered before. It seems there are more secrets on Zonama Sekot than meet the eye. But the search for those secrets will threaten the bond between Obi-Wan and Anakin - and bring the troubled young apprentice face-to-face with his deepest fears - and his darkest destiny.

ABRIDGED story

Enjoyable experience, but I did not realize it was abridged. It feels obvious in hindsight with how quickly the plot was moving. Well done regardless.

Worst yoda voice. ever.

The narrator really did a poor job on his voices which made it difficult to follow also the book kind of fizzles out before it begins. sort of answers some of the questions on what we want to know about anakin at this age but leaves more to be desired.

Great

I liked the way it described anakins feelings and showed his empathy, it really puts his character into perspective

Great Concepts and Ideas but needs more story

There are some cool scenes and ideas, Obi Wan uses Qui Gons green lightsaber, Zonoma Sekot is an interesting idea for a planet, it leads up to the new Jedi order and the yuuhzhan vong, and the race at the beginning of the book are pretty cool. Ki Dav the blood carver, the wormpilot Charza Kwinn and Raith Sienar a good mirror of Tarkin, are all good characters.

However there's just a lot of walking around and talking. Very few action or adventure scenes for a STAR WARS book and Anakin doesn't even use a lightsaber throughout the book. It mainly focuses on seeds that Zonoma Sekot produces that attach to Anakin and Obi Wan and make ships somehow. It's honestly a drag and there is hardly a story. The finale is the best part but many characters don't have payoffs. Nothing happens to Sienar or Tarkin despite being in a quarter of the pages, and the blood carver dies before anything really all that interesting is revealed about him, he's kind of a boring thug type character.

I have the paperback novel and honestly it's going on the terrible read pile of books.

Narrator

I’m not a fan of this narrator. A lot of the time I find myself struggling to know who is speaking and what emotions to feel. Great story but the reader made me want to just finish this book as fast as possible.

Still Amazing (but short) After All This Time

The story was amazing, the performance was wonderful, as all Legends retellings are. My sole complaint is that it was so short 😔

But, it is DEFINITELY worth a credit or a buy for fans of the franchise 👍🏾

Pretty cool planet

Cool planet to discover but WAY too short. I never got ATTACHED to the characters anymore than I already am. Good book just not riveting story. I wouldn't read again.

Ehhh...

This book was difficult to finish. It doesn't really add to the whole Star Wars story. The narrator didn't make some of the characters disgusted enough. A couple points during the story, I had trouble figuring out who was actually talking.

That being said there are a couple little interesting tidbits here. The biggest one for me was the planet Anakin and Obi-Wan travel to and find out how these mysterious ships are made. Also (not really a spoiler) if you're a Tarkin fan, he's in the story as well.

If this book was unabridged, I'm sure it would have been a more enjoyable experience.

slow, but interesting.

the book was slow, but not uninteresting. the biggest issue was it abrupt end. almost like ran out of time and just quickly came up with a explanation of how the end played out.

A good gap filler

This is a good gap filler that shows Anakin's progress in the Jedi Order and tells a good story. I enjoyed Micheal Cumpsty's performance and the music and sound effects are always great in these Star Wars Novels.
