Publisher's summary

“Within twenty-four standard hours we will sit firmly astride the communications link that connects the worlds of the Republic. . . . Our control will be a dagger thrust directly at Coruscant. This is the move that will win the war for us.”

With these ominous words, Pors Tonith, ruthless minion of Count Dooku, declares the fate of the Republic sealed. Commanding a Separatist invasion force more than one million strong, the cunning financier-turned-warrior lays siege to the planet Praesitlyn, home of the strategic intergalactic communications center that is key to the Republic’s survival in the Clone Wars. Left unchallenged, this decisive strike could indeed pave the way for the toppling of more Republic worlds . . . and ultimate victory for the Separatists. Retaliation must be swift and certain.

But engaging the enemy throughout the galaxy has already stretched Supreme Chancellor Palpatine’s armies to the limit. There is no choice but to move against the surging waves of invading battle-droids on Praesitlyn with only a small contingent of clone soldiers. Commanding them will be Jedi Master Nejaa Halcyon–hand-picked by the Council for the do-or-die mission. And at his side, skilled young starfighter pilot Anakin Skywalker, a promising young Jedi Padawan eager to be freed of the bonds of apprenticeship–and to be awarded the title of Jedi Knight.

Shoulder to shoulder with a rogue Republic army officer and his battle-hardened crew, a hulking Rondian mercenary with an insatiable taste for combat, and a duo of ready-for-anything soldiers, the Jedi generals take to the skies and the punishing desert terrain of occupied Praesitlyn–to bring the battle to the Separatist forces. Already outnumbered and outgunned, when confronted with an enemy ultimatum that could lead to the massacre of innocents, they may also be out of options. Unless Anakin Skywalker can strike a crucial balance between the wisdom born of the Force . . . and the instincts of a born warrior.

Abridged again...

What would have made Star Wars: Jedi Trial: A Clone Wars Novel better?

Not Abridging this novel would have made it much better. It just feels like things are missing. It was however the best abridged one I have read so far.

Another thing I noticed is that the sound effects were a little off. What I mean is that battle droids had the sound effects for destroyer droids, and some of the blaster fire did not accurately reflect the scenes.

Any additional comments?

Give us the option to listen to these books unabridged, I would gladly pay more for them.

Jedi Trial

I really enjoyed the interaction between Master Halcyon and Anakin in this novel. And the soldiers they hire are all great characters. However the plan side characters just didn’t interest me. (I don’t know why. It was exciting and they are well written, I just didn’t “bond” with them). If you have a gift card or a credit to spare this is fun romp in the EU. Remember Assaj Ventress was just a written name: this predates her official naming. In a lot of older books you will come across what seems like mispronunciations. They are not. How the heck do you say Kashyyk? (It’s from Legands. Again. Named in Episode 3. Or even Coruscant. So don’t let the “mispronounced” words brother you. They were not mispronunciations when this and others came out.
Legends maybe over but they live on the hearts of its fans. From Dawn of the Jedia set a Millennia before Yavin, to Legacy: War, a comic series set 130? years ABY. We have a lot of rereading to do. From 1977 to 2014. Damn near forty years worth. Don’t hate. Embrace Legends. May the Force Be With You.

A good insight into the military aspect of Star Wa

I enjoyed the Audiobook version more than reading the book.. Although it is an abridgement, you don't miss much as this is one.
Jedi Trial an entertaining little story about Anakin Skywalker's first mission commanding a portion of Republic Clone Troopers at the request of Master Halcyon.
You won't see much of Kenobi or any of Ashoka but we get great insight into Jedi Master Najee Halcyon who's name
who you might recognize from the X-Wing series in the Legends EU. I
would recommend this to anyone who wants interested in the Republic Army logistics and military operations.
Even though the title is Jedi Trial, you won't see much of the force, jedi's or a trial for the rank of Jedi Knight (like I assumed)

Not sure this should be called a Star Wars book...

This is one of the instances where I'm glad Disney revised the official canon. You'd think this is a book about Anakin Skywalker. Not sure that's true. This book is populated with C-List characters. Anakin doesn't do much. Dooku and Asajj are essentially absent. Clone troopers? Nope. This story focuses more on local militia troops, generals and Jedi we've never heard of before (or since). And don't forget the rodian, bounty hunter Grudo...

The narration is overall very good. He reads with lots of variation and inflection. But he does mispronounce certain words. "Padme" for instance, or "lived." Not a big issue, but sorta disappointing.

So, if you just want to hear a Star Wars audiobook, go for it. If you're looking for a cool Anakin or Asajj story (as you may assume from the cover), this may not be want you're looking for.

Blah

This is a love story, that just happens to include Anakin. I've listen to almost all of the books after Yavin and the old republic up to Maul. This is My first clone wars and it was blah. Davis's reading wasn't as good as some of his others I believe due to the storyline. I didn't find myself wanting to hear what was next. I usually will finish a book in a few days where as this took me almost a month.

Extremely Disappointed

I did not realize this was abridged until the book ended after 4 chapters. People only listen to Star Wars books for pleasure. What need would anyone have to rush through a Star Wars book? I feel like I missed a lot of character development. I was looking forward to getting more into the mind of Anakin and this missed completely. If you want to listen to one battle then this is the audiobook for you.

Mediocre

Any book read my the legend Jonathan Davis is incredibly well recorded and performed. However, he didn’t have much to work with this book. The story was okay, very slow and not a lot of new lore you usually get with Star Wars books. It’s also hardly about Anakin and I’m not sure why it’s really called the trial because nothing officially happens. Just think of it as an episode of the clone wars.
