Publisher's summary

The Excalibur has been destroyed, the victim of insidious sabotage. Last seen onboard only moments before it was blown to bits, Captain Mackenzie Calhoun was assumed lost with his ship. Now First Officer Elizabeth Shelby has been granted a command of her own, the U.S.S. Exeter, were she will discover exactly what kind of a captain she is meant to become. But what about Calhoun? Unbeknownst to Starfleet, the resourceful Xenexian officer escaped the cataclysmic demise of the Excalibur, only to end up marooned on the primitive outback world of Yakaba. There he eventually befriends Rheda, a woman with the inexplicable ability to summon rain for her parched and struggling frontier community. Rheda's powers, however, have made her the target of jealous and avaricious enemies. They will stop at nothing to seize control of her special gifts - or destroy them forever. Trapped on a hostile world, unable to contact Starfleet or even let Shelby and the others know he is still alive, Calhoun is drawn into a life-or-death struggle against relentless foes.

Why no more audiobooks?

The series is worthy of being put on cd. As a truck driver I have little time to sit and read. Audiobooks made life on the road bearablewhile waiting at weighstations or traversing the interstates. As a long time trekker I would really like to hear this, the titan, and typhone pact series on cd or done for audio download. I think they would sell well. Why let Star Wars take all of the audio market? They provide audio versions as part of the original publishing release. Live long and prosper!

wish it wasn't abridged

I read all of the new frontier books at one time, always loved the stories. I just hate it when they take so much out of them when they abridge the audio books.

Great star trek story.

Makes me wish there were more shows done with the next generation. This series would have been awesome with the actors who played in the next gen show.

Terrible book...

This is the worst Star Trek book I’ve ever listened to. The cheesy music, terrible sound effects, exaggerated reactions, and stiff dialog made several scenes cringe- worthy.

The characters who don’t have exaggerated southern accents seem like they are reading from a dictionary. The Calhoun character sounds like an embarrassingly bad Shatner impression.

With so many good Star Trek books out there, why waste time ok this one?
