Publisher's summary

He was an Iowa farm boy and a war hero, promoted to the command of the Federation's most powerful starship. His first mission: to shuttle a troop of vaudevillians to a distant starbase. But a comedy of errors turns to deadly drama when a renegade Klingon tries to provoke a war with the Federation, and a wondrous, peaceful world is caught in between. Suddenly Captain Kirk is playing a part he never learned in school: fighting for the respect - and the survival - of his crew, on a mission that could turn out to be his last.

Abridged :( :( :(

What would have made Star Trek better?

There should be a warning before purchasing abridged editions of books. Wish I could get my money back.

How could the performance have been better?

There should be a law against selling abridged books. Or at least a big warning that pops up before you waste your money.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None, threw it away without listening. Abridged books are a waste of money. Very disappointed that audible sells them

Audio quality

I can't get past how poor the audio mixing is. At times, it's impossible to hear the dialogue.

Decent first adventure story.

Overall not bad. Sound effects sometimes hinder Voice dialogue. But Takei and Nimoy are wonderful.

Too Much Noise

I had trouble hearing the story with so many sound effects. They needed to be softer.

Sound effects are PROFOUNDLY distracting.

The story & voice performers were good, but especially for a hearing impaired individual, the sound effects were seriously disturbing, and made comprehension of the text difficult in the extreme nearly every instance that they were overlaid the text.

Missing key parts, from original book.

As the headline indicates the main background parts that are in the original book are missing. Not worth the price very very disappointed. Also the sound effects drown out the narrator in many instances. Do not purchase if you want the complete story, and / or sound effects that do not drown out the narrator.

Sound effects

I believe that the sound effects distracted from the reading. Perhaps a version without the effects.

Music too loud.

Background music and sound effects were too loud. It was difficult to hear the narrator.
