Publisher's summary

Forget everything you thought you knew about maidens and unicorns... A mysterious force has separated Kayleigh Reese and her battle unicorn Majherri, who now find themselves on opposite sides of a war, each fighting to survive without the other.

For Majherri, the unicorn is now controlled by his deranged first rider, and must find a way to free her mind in the hopes of bringing the woman back to the light. Majherri is forced to pick and choose his battles, both physical and mental, if he is to succeed. Along the way, he will have to become stronger than he has ever been to prevent the madness that threatens to consume him.

Meanwhile, Kayleigh, the young sorceress, struggles with an uneasy relationship with her new unicorn. Finding their missing comrades and escaping the ever-expanding warzone are her goals, but forces are already aligning against her. Secrets from her past come to light and force her to reexamine everything she knew about her life.

Fighting for her life, she must master her powers and be willing to fight for her freedom against her enemies and even those she once trusted.

Critic reviews

"War erupts across the land, testing young Kayleigh's emerging skills and veteran Majherri's loyalties as each struggles not only to survive, but to triumph over the spreading evil. Don't miss the second installment in Bernhemier's action-packed Spirals of Destiny!" (Terry W. Ervin II, author of Relic Tech)

New Reader is 100000x better

Any additional comments?

This book was a lot of fun, though the author leaves us with some pretty mean cliff hangers. The new reader is so much better then the one choosen for the first book i really hope that she performs the next book .

Just finished and WOW!

Would you consider the audio edition of Sorceress to be better than the print version?

Maybe. Don't know. Have only read it in audible

Who was your favorite character and why?

Favorite new character is Ashlyn Thomas. Favorite older characters are either Kayleigh or Majherri. Love them. Ashlynn is so bizarre she brings some lighter moments to what was a book with some really dark patches. Nasty villains can be so annoying!!

Have you listened to any of Veronica Giguere’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

1st time with this reader and I liked her a lot better than the one for the first book. The other was such a dead pan read, that it drove me nuts. It was jolting to go from the 1st narrator to the 2nd, but I was happier with the overall outcome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I surely wanted to. I couldn't but it wasn't for lack of trying.

Any additional comments?

I really loved the 2nd book. I'd waited so long for it that I was worried I'd be disappointed. Some series fall apart or have no character development. Things ought to grow and change. This one excelled in that. It was great. Even the very last sentence fulfilled things I wanted to have happen. Much more bearable ending than the last one. Introduction of a love interest and startling changes for many different characters. I love the unicorns. I love Kayleigh's abilities with them and I love discovering her abilities right along with her. Awesome story line with so much room for more story. The only bad thing about finishing is having to wait for the next book. Please Mr. Bernheimer, don't make us wait so long for the next one. This is a great series. Don't stop and if possible continue to keep it pretty clean. LOVE that. It is adult themed, but not objectionable. Awesome!! I only gave it 4 stars because I HATE torture. Although those scenes are short and not too graphic. I guess villains have to be villains.

Who Left Me Hanging?

I gave the first book a solid 4 stars for an entertaining fantasy story that held my attention throughout. A good, enjoyable fantasy, worth my time and the credit. I happily invested in the sequel, which was almost as good as the first book. The narrator didn't add to the story but he didn't detract - 4 stars.

Now the BUTS: this is the last series book available. Audible's publish date is something like 5 years ago. You'd figure it was a 2 book "series", right? WRONG!

I'm happily getting to the end of the book, it sounds like the author is going to wind up the story, BUT NOOO! Literally in the last "pages", I get hit over the head with one of those WHAT??? cliffhangers leaving the question I can't get answered unless I track down a print version. I doubt Audible will bring it out in the next year, over 5 years after the first two were published. So:

4 stars for the general storyline and writing;
4 stars for the narrator; BUT......
3 stars overall....should really be 2..for whoever left me hanging.
The author? he wrote it that way, or Audible? if they're just dropping it after I paid my credit for a sequel and they're just never bringing it out.

Should I ask for my credits back when I enjoyed it but feel cheated paying to be left hanging ? Maybe just for book 2?

Much better narrator for Bk2

We can only hope Jim B can secure this narrator for his next book in the series, especially if he can get her to slow down just a fraction. The writing was better in this book also, which you always hope for in a series as the author gets to know the characters better. It's an inventive departure from most fantasy series, it's a nice change of pace- looking forward to book 3.

Great Story!

Great story! The author has great skill in story telling. The narrator change wouldn't have been bad except that she didn't read the main unicorn character's name correctly. She started off saying it wrong one way then changed to say it wrong another way through the rest of the story. It was very annoying. There were several times she read in broken sentences, like she has to take a breath before finishing the sentence. Overall she was a decent narrator if not for the name mispronunciation it could have been more enjoyable.

Questions Answered

Another good book in this series. At times the perspective of Daniella is annoying it was definitely a good read and answered lots of questions about the heritage of our heroine .

Be prepared for the cliffhanger ending though.

Bad narration

The narrator comes close to making this book intolerable. Her voice lacks any range of emotion. Every sentence seems frenzied and without release. She speaks too fast and with a strange syncopation at times. Character voices sound whiny no matter what they are saying and she does not have a credible male character voice. Truly an unfortunate read of an otherwise enjoyable book.

Change in Narrator

Narrator changed the way the Unicorns name was pronounced. it is distracting and I could not get though the first chapter. May try again later as I liked the first book.
