Publisher's Summary

Dr. Victor Kraus labored tirelessly as a wildlife ecologist, passionately striving to use science and reformed policies to curtail the human activities driving global warming and fueling the sixth mass extinction. When Victor realized that nothing would stop the number of species being lost to human greed and overconsumption, he resorted to using the only weapon left in his arsenal: the first mass human extinction.
A highly lethal engineered virus was developed and disseminated around the world to reduce the human population to one billion people. As the viral apocalypse detonated across the globe, the virus destroyed billions of lives and delivered fear and chaos to every corner of the earth. With the pandemic running rampant, a Montana virologist working on a vaccine, recruited an unlikely group of friends to help him hunt down an increasingly brazen Victor, stop the virus, and save what is left of humankind.

Not a story element missing.

This is an interesting dystopian novel written by someone who clearly knows the insides and outsides of the topic: viral population control. The story rambles a bit sometimes, strikes me as one of those first novels by an author with a lot of potential and not quite as much polish, but all in all it has a large cast of engaging characters that converge just as you might expect in a story that really holds nothing back.

One of the best things about this book is the narration. Clean and clear in the simple narration and utterly fantastic at the character animation. Great listening experience.

Great First Part

I liked the new take on a virus that destroys a huge part of humanity in that it incorporates current climate change and overpopulation concerns. We'll drawn characters, some good shocks and excellent narration by Kevin Theis. He does a great job of delineating characters by using slight variations of accents and voice modulation. I look forward to part 2!
