Publisher's summary

It began in First Activation, when military veterans Harry and Jack arrived at a silent JFK airport and a New York City full of madmen driven to kill one another.

In Second Activation, the two brothers escape from Monroe, Michigan, and head for New York to face down Genesis Alliance, a despotic organization that is implementing the chaos to create a new order. Caught in a race against time, confronted with a local team intent on revenge and expecting the imminent arrival of a larger reinforcement, Harry and Jack must avoid existing dangers, gain allies, and stop the Alliance from launching its next Activation.

With the fate of the remaining population at stake, Harry and Jack know that stopping the Activation means going to war once again....

Second Activation is the sequel in the high-octane and thrilling postapocalyptic Activation series.

ONLY FOOLS RUSH IN

THE BOOK JUMPS RIGHT BACK INTO ACTION
AudioBookReviewer, states it plainly. This is action packed and that is all it is. A lot of listeners love to listen to people running around shooting, killing, hiding and running away. If you are one of those people than like some reviewers who have never meet a book they didn't love, you too will love this. Call me weird, but I like character development, lots of sciencey stuff and maybe a conspiracy theory. While book one has sciencey and conspiracy, this does not add anything new to book one. It didn't in the first four hours, which is all I could handle.

For me the journey through the Activation series ends here.

The book jumps right back into the action

Picks up exactly where First Activation leaves off. The two brothers are forced to escape from Michigan and go back to New York City. Getting there will be no easy fate for them facing off activated people and Genesis Alliance members who are hunting them down.

Thankfully James Langton did the narration for the second audiobook. I really enjoyed his performance of First Activation and was happy to have him back for the Second Activation. The quality of everything was great, his voice, the character voices he gave and the overall performance. Everything was studio quality with no problems to speak of at all.

The book jumps right back into the action, taking the final line from the first book and making it the first line of this book. Honestly, it never let up through the whole book. As I was listening to this, my heart rate would increase as the brothers would be thrown into terrible situation after terrible situation that I was convinced they wouldn’t make it out of.

That to me is a sign of a well written book. It grabbed my attention from the get go and wouldn’t let it go. And any time it felt like it was letting go it grabbed me tighter and threw the characters into the fire again.

I’m not sure if the Wearmouth brothers are going to be continuing the story after these two books, but they can. The story has an ending, but could be continued for sure. I was happy with where they left it, but now I’m craving more and more!

The activations continue...as does this journey...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

In almost every instance, having an audiobook on the go is time well spent. This one is definitely no exception. Well drawn characters, excellent and interesting narration, and a plot that is entertaining. Well worth it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

No real surprise. To be continued, so far as I can tell.

Which scene was your favorite?

The city scenes are fascinating speculation.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Definitely, but it would need some aggressive editing.

Any additional comments?

This book is worth the credit if nothing else but for the performance by James Langton, who is quickly becoming one of my favourite readers on Audible. This less of a story, and more of a journal of a journey, but however you want to describe it, it is well worth the investment of time and credit.

I hope there is a "book 3."

I feel like the first book really finally got good near the end. The second book just took off and ran from start to finish. I finished it in a day and a half. Beware of the Genesis Alliance!

Just when you think it's safe to go outside

This marks twice in less than two weeks that I have read one book in the series one day, and then finished the second book in quick succession. I just recently did that with the Android X series.

I’ve only listened to a few audiobooks that Brilliance Audio has published but I have come to expect top quality from them.

Great conclusion hope for a sequel

Brilliant book, very well written.
Ends the current chapter, but leaves it open for possibly more books.
Nice to see a different take on the Zombie theme.

Interesting spin on end of the world novel

The previous volume and this one are a good addition to any library. The authors came up with an interesting premise and had a decent execution of the story.

Exciting, Fast Paced, Sci-Fi Thriller

I just finished listening to the Audible of the Second Activation, and I absolutely loved it! Darren and Marcus Wearmouth are wonderful storytellers and I really enjoy their writing style. The characters they've created are well developed and real. And, they're beautifully brought to life in both the First Activation & Second Activation Audible books, by the talented narrator, James Langton. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the Activation series and hope I won't have to wait too long. I highly recommend this series - especially if you're looking for a well written, fast paced, dystopian sci-fi thriller!
