Meet Mulder and Scully, FBI: the agency maverick and the female agent assigned to keep him in line. Their job is to investigate the eerie unsolved mysteries the bureau wants handled quietly but quickly, before the public finds out what's really out there...and panics - the cases filed under "X".

In this ambitious and exciting X-Files adventure, Mulder and Scully fly to the Yucatán jungle to investigate a missing team of archaeologists. Their exploration leads to a strange electronic signal coming from beneath ancient ruins - a signal aimed upward, at the stars.

No, This is not a good X-Files Book

Three hours into the story and it is still totally boring. The narrator's overly present voice offers no feeling to the reading. It might not be entirely his fault because the story is so very, very, very slow.

Not the X-files "feel"

The story, to me at least, seems to never really take off. The bad-guys are presented extremely early in the story line and the commando-squad seems like they're only there to make the ending happen. The whole thing just feels forced, with no real story or development troughout. On top of that I question the narrator's pronunciation of a certain name in the cast, which is hard to get past. Just not my cup of tea I guess. :)

Best original run x-files narrated

Conditional praise! The story itself is pretty engaging and fun, even if the spectacle at the end pushes the bounds of the in-universe a bit. Also, the issues of narration rather than full cast are still present making what would be an excellent adventure into a story that takes a little patience at times but is worthwhile!

Awesome!!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

No, I loved it!!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I loved to connection to the ancient Mayan culture. . The jungle descriptions were amazing.

Which character – as performed by Patrick Lawlor – was your favorite?

Mulder is always my favorite. I love his passion for weird stuff.

Could you see Ruins being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

YES!! This book would make an amazing movie!!

Any additional comments?

I really loved the tie in with one of my favorite TV shows "Ancient Aliens". It made for a fun story and drove Scully a little crazy. Great book!!

Fantastic!

From start to finish I couldn’t put it down. It made my flight home fly by in a flash almost like I’d been… well you’ll figure it out.

A fun X-Files story

This could be seen as a decent episode of the show. Not one that totally sticks out, but still worth your time.

Some glaring technical mistakes but fun.

Author's missteps broke the immersion but it was still enjoyable. A bit more homework needed by the author on military matters and where certain sports teams call home.

A lot of fun

This book was a lot of fun. The set up and the story was quite good, and the premise didn’t stretch my suspension of disbelief too far. (Spoiler) Anderson does not know how to write special forces, though. It’s all going great, and then he gets to them, and they were bumbling and completely unbelievable. Still a good book though, and I recommend it. The narrator does a great job again (as always)

Stilted Dialog

The dialog between characters come off as stilted, partially from the writing, partially from the reading. It read like “…..comment comment… (gap)he said”.
I had been curious how well they’d do writing an X-Files book. Now I know.

Why does Anderson hate the US military?

Well, that’s two x files books fro Anderson now where the US military is the bad guy and inept. Weak ending on scully not seeing the ship.
