Publisher's summary

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." (Arthur C. Clarke)

She didn't mean to use magic.

She didn't even know she had magic.

Accused of using illegal magic, and sentenced to a cruel death at the hands of the city's guards, Hannah has no choice but to trust in the aid of a strange old man who wields unimaginable power.

The Founder has returned to correct the wrongs of unjust. But to do that, he needs Hannah, a young woman from the city slums. She has a key to unlocking a power even greater than his own - if she can only learn to trust herself and the magic flowing within her blood.

Restriction is a fantasy set in the far future, where magic and monsters ravage the land of Irth and only the strong survive.

Offshoot series from Kurtherian universe

*Spoilers* Set in the future of Earth after Bethany Anne & Michael have traveled into space, nanos & magic spread into the population; many weren't able to handle the etheric requirement & went mad; the mad were stopped & mankind grouped together to protect & rebuild. Ezekial, the Founder of Arcadia and primary architect of this new peace, decided to go a-travelin, & left his main student Adrian in charge. Adrian's power hungry urges went unchecked and a secret tyranny has been created. Only the rich who can pay off Adrian can send their children to the Academy for training. The poor who show magical ability are rounded up and killed. Ezekial is shocked at the abuse and inhumanity and decides to take action. Luckily, he witnesses the spontaneous magical actions of Hannah to save her brother's life; and decides to train her, as she can use all 3 types of magic. Ezekial believes Hannah has the ability to become an even greater mage than he is, and can be pivotal in ousting Adrian. Rudd does an excellent job with this narration. Must read for Kurtherian addicts (?) devotees (?) Enjoy!

Excellent start to the series

I really enjoyed this captivating fantasy. This story has complex, kick-ass characters that immediately grab your attention; a street rat with innovative powers, a wizard who's life's work has been perverted, mind controlling mystics and a villain with delusions of grandeur to name but a few. This story has tragedy, magic, hints of potential romance and action. The plot is well paced, exciting, humorous and keeps your attention from the beginning to the end. The narrator of the audiobook did an excellent job. Her male and female voices were spot on and she created tension, sarcasm and humour with her tone and intonation in all the right places. Kate Rudd gives the characters individual voice and had the story visualized in your head like a movie at the theatre. It's the first book I've read/listened to in this universe and it definitely made me want to read more in the Kurtherian Gambit series. I will look forward to listening to the continuation of Hannah's story in the next book.

Excellent New Beginning

I got this book via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I enjoyed this story from the beginning. The many plot twists and short scenes that led to the main characters meeting as well as the world building were done very well. The ending was something else. The conclusion was a cliffhanger in a manner but was drawn to a conclusion. The next story should come quickly since this was a very good story. I dislike cliffhangers but the story did come to a conclusion but made me want to hear the next book. I hate it when you have to wait to know what the next story holds. Looking forward to the next story.

Great New Fantasy New Series With Quite a Bit Of Action

The story is interesting and the characters are well developed. The Author created an excellent world. The story grips you and keeps you in the edge of your seat. There is some crude language and IMO I would say this is appropriate for an older audience not for kids.

Narration was well done and brought the story to life.

The story is not complete so if you want to find out how things turn out, you will need to continue reading the next book in this intriguing new series. There is a lot that goes on towards the end but it does leave you hanging and issues unresolved. This is very well written and I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in this epic fantasy series.

Amaze Balls!!!

I’m obsessed with the KGB series and each off shoot stories. This was a more emotional and heartfelt story with a great world building and characters. It makes you want to laugh, cry and cheer plus cuss out the really bad characters all at the same time. Highly recommend

Great beginning for this journey!

I listened to the audiobook version of this tale. I'll start by saying the narrator took me a bit to get used to. She sounded almost robotic, except when she was speaking in the voices of the characters. Yet after a time, I grew to appreciate her calm tone, and it's value to the story.

I've never read any other books set in what I have now learned is a vast world that this series spins from. Not to worry, this is a tale all its own. Following a snarky girl from the wrong side of town, it was full of cursing (verbal and magical), snark, bad a$$ery, and general awesomeness.

Magic? Check.
Worthy female heroine? Check.
Angst and drama? Check and check.

While I'm usually anxious to get to the end and see how it all turns out, this is only book one, so the story is really only beginning. This left me disappointed to reach the end, and only anxious to start the next book.

Absolutely worth the journey into this surprising future regressed world of magic.

Life of a teenager with a big mouth

***Note- Plenty of fowl language

First off, the story line is well written. Plenty of action as it goes more into it.

This book is more of a compilation between these books (and a few others that I can't think of on top of my hand):

I Am Legend- Richard Matheson
(This book is kind of like what happened during the 'crazy's)
Flight of the Dominion- Craig Halloran
(this book is more of the aftermath per-se.

Great book!

If the language is cut down a bit, I believe more people would be more inclined to listening to it more. But overall, well done!
