The blurb pretty much sums this up better than I could!!..."Myers is a Relic. Cast out of society by a computer program that's far more efficient at managing and regulating human life than any human ever could be.
The System is running everyone's life. It's quickly becoming smarter than humans, and it no longer has any need for leaders like Myers. There's a technological singularity coming, and only Myers knows how to stop it.
The problem? He doesn't remember anything from the past fifteen years.
And now he's being hunted..."
This book surprised the heck out of me. I love a good techno thriller but when you add in a post apoc setting, I didn't think it would work, but it does!! I flew through this and absolutely loved it!
The plot was equal parts fascinating as it was extremely scary! Could you imagine a world where an A.I becomes smarter than humans and holds all the power?? This is the world at the moment, and boy was it terrifying. You can't hide from the all seeing eye ;)
Myers is a great character. He wakes up with no memories. He is being hunted and has no clue why. Slowly things start to break through his mind and he starts to realise some important things...like he is probably the only human alive that can stop what is happening. He had a hand in creating this AI, but with his memories gone, how can he? Seeing Myers struggle to remember who he was and slowly learning about him and his life was thrilling. We slowly see the pieces start to come together and it was awesome!!
In all, this was such a great read. It was entertaining, unique and engaging. I loved the world the author created and was so happy I gave this book a chance. There was so much happening throughout the story that I found it hard to put down. It's over 15hrs long but I listened to it in just a few days!!
David S. Dear read this well. He had plenty and tones and voices for the different characters and gave a good performance. I felt like he needed to work on his inflections more though to truly bring this to life.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts

Relics are people. People who have bucked the system and had their minds broken, erased because they proved to be too dangerous to an A.I. Their brains are erases in chunks, so that they have no memories of what they did, and they barely know how to fend for themselves. These people are hunted. Myers is a new Relic, just released into the wild. He's lost about 15 years of his life, just no memory, and the bad news is, somewhere in those lost memories is a key to stopping the oncoming singularity. Three books center on Myers quest to stop the singularity.
This book is set in a bleak dystopian setting in which humanity has lost, and A.I. runs everything. One of the things I liked about this book is that the main character, Myers, never gives up in spite of all the odds against him I liked that the book doesn't make it so that every relic is a good guy, and that there is always hope.
Dear narrates wonderfully, and pulls you into the future world before you know you've left here. He makes you feel everything Myers does, you will wince when he is hurt, and cry if he stubs his toe. This is a powerful book about loss, grief, hope, redemption, andthe right for freedom.
