Publisher's Summary

A raw and gritty standalone novel in The World Burns saga.
Life after an EMP puts the US in the dark ages is not an easy one. Life is dangerous and difficult enough without humans preying on each other. Don, an alcoholic, and a gamer girl called "Z" make an odd introduction together and find themselves thrust into a survival situation neither of them are prepared to endure.
A ghost from Don's past surfaces - one who's responsible for his pain and suffering. Can both Don and Z endure in a world that has gone crazy, when all they want to do is keep on living?

An enjoyable listen.

I haven't read any of the A World Burns books before this and while I enjoyed this, I felt like something was missing! I think if there was maybe a little round up of how the EMP happened, it may have taken away the nagging feeling of the story being incomplete! I do think, if you have read and enjoyed the other books, then you may love this.

This is told from 2 very different peoples POV. Don, an alcoholic man, and Z, a woman just trying to survive the gangs. Each of these were well written! Don being so broken and dealing with his alcoholism, and Z, just trying not to be raped and dragged off by the bikers. When Don is beaten to within an inch of his life, Z is the one to find him and help him heal. I liked both characters and felt for each of them.

This isn't focused on the aftermath of the Apocalypse, this is more character focused. It brings us on both of these characters journeys and their struggle to survive. I'm actually really looking forward to the next one to see where they go from here.

In all, this is a dark, yet hopeful read. It has definitely peaked my interest and I look forward to more.

Kevin Pierce did an amazing job, as always. He seems to have a voice for post apocalyptic books!! He is easy to listen to and has a wide range of tones.

I like Kevin's narrations, and this was a good story..I like P/A books....this is a story of a friendship that developed by accident between Z and Don..after the world comes to a bitter halt..She saves him, and they become friends...and in return he saves her...they keep each other sane and make each others lives was a good story!
