Publisher's summary

When his body is hideously damaged in an enemy attack, it looks as though Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor's promising career would be abruptly brought short. Now, encased in a life support sytem that keeps him alive but forever cuts him off from the physical world, Ravenor utilises his formidable mental powers to continue his investigations. Along with his retinue of warriors and assassins, Gideon Ravenor fights to protect an Imperium he can no longer see, hear or feel.

Grim and Glorious.

I came to this after the Eisenhorn books. Ravenor continues the fight! He is an equally (for me sometimes even more) excellent and compelling hero as Eisenhorn. I like how he is incredibly formidable, yet limited at the same time though being forced to survive in a support chair. It gives his staff more of a chance to shine, and creates some unique dynamics that separate this trilogy from the Eisenhorn one in an interesting way.

Ravenor inherited some team members from Eisenhorn so familiar faces are back. There are new members too so it's cool to see the familiar characters within this new ensemble while also appreciating how much fun the new people are. It's not just a rehash of the Eisenhorn books.

Toby Longworth is so super good as a narrator. It's an easy and satisfyingly intense experience to listen to his read of this. I liked the presence of Xenos as well as Chaos elements in the book and the mix of on the ground and ship based action.

This voice actor is the best I've ever heard.

The performance is amazing, and the story is great. Like a well written DnD game.

Magnificent!

First impressions made me think it was a little crass(adult language), but after listening to its entirety, I am glad I finished the book. Top marks for characters; from backstory to in-story implementation, everything fits together perfectly. only criticism follows; one character is voiced differently throughout the book, starting with one voice before switching to a distinctly different voice and manner. however, this is toward the end of the book and the character has few lines, less than a dozen. So only a very minor issue.

Thank you for writing this book(Dan Abnett) and for providing such a fantastic oration(Toby Longworth)!

Great story. I have a new favorite Character.

It is best summed up as a deep story building. Defiinatly in for the long haul. I like it better even than the eisenhorn books. And that is saying something. However I now cannot wait to start book two.

Great Series!

No spoilers! I just finished the series and feel my last review works for each book:

In the last three months, I devoured the entire Eisenhorn series along with the Ravenor trilogy, and I also read one Bequin novel along the way. Dan Abnett has become one of my favorite and most respected authors, and Toby Longworth's narration feels like the quintessential voice of Eisenhorn and the entire Warhammer 40K universe. The combination of compelling storytelling and captivating performance kept me hooked throughout.

The conclusion of the Ravenor trilogy was satisfying and refreshingly devoid of clichés. I expected a stereotypical ending, but Abnett delivered something far more nuanced. The characters' arcs continue to evolve beyond the last page, while still providing closure for the series.

These two series served as my introduction to the Warhammer 40K universe, and I never felt lost. I deliberately avoided spoilers, opting to search for terms via a 40K wiki without delving into character details until after I finished each series.
