Publisher's summary

An infamous love, destined nevermore,

For death could not claim, the enchanting Lenore.

Cursed by the malevolent spirit of the Headless Horseman, Ireland Crane ventures to Manhattan in search of a way to break her soul-crushing bond. Instead, she discovers the lines between fact and fiction are blurring once more. Croaking ravens. Telltale hearts. Could the works of Poe be coming to pass with handsome Wall Street Midas, Ridley Peolte as their unwilling target?

She walks the Earth, a plague on mankind,

searching for him, her rotted heart doth pine.

Together, the two unknowingly release a dark force death itself could not tame. Surrounded by the unrelenting violence and mayhem they've unleashed, Ireland feels her control over the Horseman slipping. Before the beast within consumes her, she and her crew must follow the clues of the dead to right a centuries' old wrong. Will it be enough to sate the Horseman's appetite?

Hell hath no fury like a ghoul scorned.

Poetastic!!

I devoured book one of this series and couldn't wait for this to come to audio, so when I got the chance to review this, needless to say I jumped for joy!! Book 1 centers around Ireland finding out what she is, and this one centers on her trying to find answers to where and why she has the magical tattoo. Well along with Noah and Rip, Ireland encounters the enigmatic Ridley whom has his own problems in the form of him being like Ireland and having an alter ego by the name of Edgar Allen Poe. So again, like book 1, this book jumps seamlessly from era to era, regaling us with tales of Poes life and the antics of Ireland, Noah and Rip!

I must admit that I've only read a few Poe cause I find them so depressing, but if they were all like this, then I would devour them all the time! ;) The author has absolutely and utterly captured my attention, and indeed, my heart with this series as a whole, but especially the characters. Ireland is a feisty, no nonsense girl and easily relatable. Noah is..... swoon worthy ;), Rip is charming in the current era and a lovable rogue in the early era. Then we have Ridley, at first he comes across as egotistical but you soon see (two) another side to him!

Apart from Irelands quest for knowledge on how she can fix what she is, I really enjoyed Poe's story. His heartbreaking relationship with Lenore and what happened was so sad but also a little disturbing to say the least!! I loved seeing him from boyhood to what he is now, even if he has to hitch a ride through someone else.

Anyway, this is one amazing book chock full of action, adventure, love, loss, laughs and so much in between that you can't help but love it. It has a dark tone but one that will compel you to keep reading till the early hours. I have to applaud the author for the masterpieces that are this series!! She is an exceptional story teller and I urge everyone to give these books a go! Unique, engrossing and absolutely fan-freaking-tastic!!!

Karen Krause narrates this amazingly well. With the amount of different characters, I never had trouble following who was talking at any given time. She embodied Ireland perfectly and captured Rip and Poe brilliantly. I really hope she narrates the next installment as she IS the voice of Ireland.

Book 2

Any additional comments?

An intense bookending has me wanting for book 3. This book had some new historical figures into the story with this sequel, and I’m so curious to see who else we have yet to see added into the mix. Waiting for the next sequel

Another wild gallop through the American gothics!

With highly enjoyable wit, sarcasm, and annoyance in equal measure, Ireland Crane follows the clue of her magical tattoo to New York, hoping to be rid of her hateful ghostly rider, the Hessian. There she finds another poor guy, Ridley, who is cursed with Edgar Allen Poe’s ability to see and hear the hateful dead. Poe himself could restore life to the dead, but could only resurrect ghouls, which he discovers to his horror when his beloved Lenore returns from death as a ghoul. Lenore has been driven to murderous rampages by the mutterings of the hateful dead, and these dictate her imprisonment for the next century by Poe, who listens to her the telltale beat of her heart with sorrow.

Ridley is only a partial inheritor of Poe’s curse of life; he cannot restore the dead, but can, in combination with Ireland’s curse of death, vanquish Poe’s beloved but vicious and exceedingly durable Lenore.

And the plot thickens, as we begin to see a pattern of bringing curse carriers together to right the supernatural wrongs of the past, whose bloody results have been purposely disguised and hidden in fantastic stories to hide historical truth.

Narrator was a DRAG!

I purchased the audiobook To accompany me on a road trip. The story was EXCELLENT, but the narrator was TERRIBLE- I'm sorry! Her voice carried no inflection; she almost sounded digital. I was ecstatic to finally pick up my physical book again!

Raven

I SO wanted to love this book.It was witty and interesting in parts and confusing as Algebra in the next sentence.I had a hard time keeping character names,POV and storylines seperate.I listened to the Audible version, maybe paper would have been easier to differentiate the characters.Karen Krause is a wonderful narrator.I was gifted this copy for an honest review
