Publisher's summary

War with their archrival, the evil Ansara clan, is unavoidable. For Mercy Raintree, a war means she must assume her position as guardian of the Sanctuary: the sacred Raintree home place deep in the Smoky Mountains. But doing so threatens to disclose her most prized secret, one Mercy has kept to herself for six years.

As the solstice looms, and the battle heats up, Dranir Judah Ansara gathers his forces, intending to wipe every Raintree from the face of the land. Including Mercy, whom he's claimed as his to kill. Then he comes face-to-face with her - and with her daughter, Eve. Will Mercy's closely guarded secret change not only the outcome of the battle, but also Judah's own bitter heart?

Best on of the trilogy

This one was the best of the 3 Raintree books. Story and voices were perfect.

Not as good, not disapointing either

Not as good as the first two books in the series, but worth listening too. I did feel that it had a pretty abrupt ending, most of the focus was on the main couple and the big fight we have all been waiting for really wasn't that long and the book was over. It did tie up the series in a fitting way, however. The daughter was pretty annoying, what a brat. All in all I'm glad I listened to it and would listen to again.

An unexpected conclusion . . .

Beverly Barton is a good writer, however, the storyline to the conclusion of the Raintree and Ansara clash was not the best. I agree with Rebecca that the interaction between Judah Ansara and Mercy Raintree had wayyyy too much violence. And that the brevity of the book (under 300 pages) restricted full development of the main characters and the inclusion of the great couples that we met in the earlier books of this trilogy.

Good Conclusion

This was a good conclusion to an overall good series. I know there's a fourth book, but these three were all tightly wound together and this is definitely a stopping point.

I didn't love the relationship between Mercy and Juda, there was too much of them wanting to literally kill one another until too close to the end. Mercy kept swearing she fell in love with him seven years ago when they had a one-night stand that resulted in their daughter, but I'm not sure what "love" means in this context because I sure didn't feel it.

Even, the 6-year-old daughter, was a little scary. Which was definitely the point!

Excellent series — seamless even though 3 different authors. Fun read. I’m so glad I jumped in.

A disappointment

After enjoying the first two books in the Raintree series I was really
looking forward to this book. It would hopefully bring all of the
characters together for the final showdown. The story had lots of
potential but, it just didn't live up to it. While the narration was
good again, the hero and heroine just lacked chemistry. When they
finally do come together sexually it is a forceful, brutal, and
antagonist. I cringed at some of the wording used; it seemed like more
of a rape than intense passion. Additionally, Mercy's brothers are
hardly in this novel even though the reader is left hanging at the ends
of novels one and two. I must admit that I finished the book. I had to
find out what happened but, I am disappointed that this series'
potential just wasn't fully realized. If written by one of the two
previous authors, I think this could have been superbly delicious. Also,
the child Eve could be way too annoying at times and, was used too
heavily as a means to bring her parent's romance along. I'd rather see
this done through good development of the characters so that it really
works for the reader. Finally, the graphic violence of the final battle
was over the top at times for my taste; a trend a really don't like
seeing in my chic novels.
