hoping this never happens in my lifetime

Enjoyed listening to this book, sorry to find out the 2nd book in the series is not available on Audible now.
Trying to wrap my mind around the realities of this situation because this book really does paint a bleak but accurate picture of what will happen to our society if we lost electricity. Just the one thing changes everything. and not in a good way. I didn't grow up with all the more modern electronics, video had just come out, we walked everywhere as children or rode bikes. most families had one car. Now without my Mac, iPad, iPhone and internet to connect with the world Im sure Id feel just as lost as these folks did, but it wasn't that that they focused on after a few days it was the lack of resources, food and warmth. that was a wake up call. I liked at the end that a few things were cleared up on the technicalities that didn't make sense.

EMP novel

What I liked and what engaged me as a reader:

• In this book you were drawn in by the need to understand the complex personalities of Andrea, Lexie, and Sara after an EMP hits America. As the story progresses, the more you want to discover more about these characters.
• The story is told through the alternating narration of Andrea, Lexie and Sara.
• The minor players in this novel add depth to the storyline.
• The descriptions of locations and emotions were very well done, easy to visualize, and to feel. I felt a part of the scenes and a part of the post EMP world.
• This book gave me a lot to think about being prepared for emergencies.
• This book is clean and very religious. I enjoyed that fact, but others may not.
• The three narrators were perfect for this novel and did an excellent job.

Glad I listened to the end

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes - glad I listened to it even though it is written toward the teenage audience. Even still, I learned some surprising things about how such an event would most likely unfold on civilization and the brutal day-by-day of trying to cope to such a sudden change. BUT - if you are a liberal, atheist, or a new-age type, this is not your book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pulse?

The encounter with the Catholic Priest at the church cemetery.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The first teenage girl's story is believable and almost disgustingly realistic. The author researched his subjects extremely well.

Did Pulse inspire you to do anything?

To get rid of the unessential "stuff" that has somehow collected in my house, in my life, and in my heart. I am motivated to prepare my heart first, then do little things that could ease the pain if such an event did leave us in the dark for a very, very long time. Must stay grounded in love for other people, but don't be a fool.

Any additional comments?

Listen to this story if you are a prepper or just interested in a realistic apocalyptic twist...just be ready for the irritating teen-age girl diatribes.

Pulse Book one

I got this audio-book from Free Audiobook Codes. This website is feast or famine.

This was a feast! Felt real. From 3 young girls POV. I agree with some of the other reviewers. Bible and politics are heavy in the book. That said. The people we are following are into this. That being said, I believe it is necessary to the story line. Set in fiction, you can see how it could happen. Ask yourself, What would I do? Some predictable, some not so much. My only complaint is this is the only book in audible. Would have used a credit for the others. Good job everyone!

What disappointed you about Pulse?

Seriously? 4.3 hours of this novel is bible thumping filler but the rest is a GOOD read. PLEASE...bleep the bad words, I get it; make Moral choices, I get it. But enough of the feckin' Bible Thumping!!!! This cost me a credit, I should have just dropped a $20 in the offerings bowl.

Would you ever listen to anything by L.R. Burkard again?

Not too likely; just TRY to be a little more subtle.... huh?

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Narrators didn't raise my hair, and I honestly didn't think about them much; which by my standards, is how it should be. Good job.

What character would you cut from Pulse?

Jesus. Just sayi'n.

Not really; just ya'll Christians sendin me to hell should know I'm Buddhist.
