Publisher's summary

In book eleven of her New York Times best-selling Elemental Assassin series, author Jennifer Estep continues "one of the best urban fantasy series going on the market" (Fresh Fiction).

Gin Blanco is hard-nosed, sexy, and lethal. Nicknamed "The Spider," she's a stone elemental assassin who brings her unique mix of magic and tact to every assignment, no matter the target.

There's a new drug on the streets of Ashland, and its name "Burn" sums up the potent effect it has on its users. When one of her restaurant employees is threatened by dealers of the drug, Gin steps in to set things straight…

will she ever get better at using her powers

Any additional comments?

I don't think I will be getting the next book. I'm starting to get tired of the filler and reiterating of who she is and I'm stunned on the fact of her powers and how she beat Mab Monroe who was the st strongest elemental in 500 years and she is now the strongest and has trouble with everyone else that was scared of Mab. The stories are great except the filler just the fights with the bosses could be more believable and it would be nice to see her learn more about her magic and actually use her full potential besides one time out of what 12 books now.

Don't Annoy The Spider!!

The spider is back and back with force.... You get to finally know a big-ish secret, and you get to know that if you annoy the spider too many times, then she will just finish you.... So stay away from the spider everyone.

I'm going to spoil this book if i say anything else... So lets just say that it was much much better than the previous one, and it established few things which will make the upcoming ones more exciting.

Shampoo Rinse Repeat

Once again, Gin gets drawn into a spat involving a crime boss when she comes to the aid of a gal. There’s even the formula moment when the guys leer and prepare to have their evil way with the gal, before Gin steps in. Once again Gin and Bria squabble about vigilante justice vs cop/court justice. Once again we hear “luck is a fickle b**ch” and “ I palmed my silverstone knife.” Once again Gin gets captured and tortured near to death. Once again Gin single handedly takes on the bad guys and everyone else shows at the end to “help.”

At least for once, the final battle has Gin using her ice and stone magic (even if Gin still hasn’t made any effort to train or strengthen her magic). And hallelujah! It appears we’re finally past all that relationship angst. The are comfy formulas that never move the needle very far, but are entertaining enough when bought on sale.

For the love of cheesuz!

This is book 11, she takes birth control (we GET that) but does it need to be inserted EVERY TIME she and Owen are about to do the nasty? Especially if he ends up being the responsible party on safe sex in that scene?? It would be better to leave out that section instead of including taking that "little white pill."

Apart from that, love the series. I just do an inner cringe before going onto the next book in the series because the above will more than likely make an appearance somewhere in the new one.

For this book, we find out that Mab Munroe isn't entirely gone from Gin's life and makes out for an interesting storyline. Slow to start, but picks up after a few chapters.

Another Good book

I liked the book, went by fast. My only problem is that the book somewhat veered from the previous books. I say that because of her capabilities in the other book should have allowed her to do certain things that in this book she could not (don't want to ruin the book for anyone). That being said, I do enjoy the series and will continue to listen.

The Spider doing her thing

Another action packed installment of the Elemental Assassin. It's Gin's Birthday book, Happy Birthday Genevieve Snow!

I love Lauren Fortengang's interpretation of the Spider so I had preordered this book at audible. Definitely a wise decision if I may say so. This audiobook was all that I had hoped it would be. I had been waiting for this enemy for awhile and this book resolved many issues and paved the way for a new war.

Someone is dealing drugs, a new kind of drug called Burn, and it is worse than anything Ashland and South town had seen in a long time. When the Pork Pit waitress, Catalina, was accosted by her friend and forced to sell drugs, Gin stepped in to help Catalina. Of course, this inserted the Spider into Ashland's underworld, and again forcing her to clean up the mess the Ashland PD couldn't.

What I liked about this book was that Gin finally reached a comfortable place in her tenous relationship with Bria, her baby sister. Bria is a judgmental, self righteous cop (the female Donovan Caine) and everything was just black and white with her. In this book she finally saw the shaded areas Gin lived in and she was finally humbled (or smacked her off her high horse).

My favorite part was the fact that the focus of this book was on the Spider and that is when Gin is at her best--Kicking Ashland underworld butt. Everyone connected to Gin makes an appearance and we finally get to meet MM Monroe. It's sad but I am excited because MM is definitely her mother's daughter. There is another surprise to MM Monroe too. I am excited for where this series is going.

Wow how original, Gin gets captured again

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the writer could get a different plot contrivance then Gin always being captured, tortured, escaping and the coming back to kill the bad guy.

Has Poison Promise turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes. I am not wasting my money on the rest of the books in this series. Time for some grown up books.

Which scene was your favorite?

Gin cooking for friends and family.

What character would you cut from Poison Promise?

Gin. She needs to plan better.

Bria *sigh*

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 4.50
Character Rating: 3.50

Audio Rating: 5.00 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Loved the story in Poison Promise by Jennifer Estep but Bria needs to get over it already! Either accept your sister or move on.

Story Thoughts:There was a whole lot of kicking ass in Poison Promise and I liked it. Drug King needed taking down: Gin's got it taking care of. New characters in the fold that could go either way: Gin's got that too. A whole lot of twists, turns, and snark: Gin can handle it. It was just another great adventure for Gin and crew!

Character Thoughts: Let me be specific: every character was downright awesome except Bria. Seriously, I know it sucks that you are a cop and your sister is an assassin. Also, it sucks that she knows it is better for her to do things her way than you. JUST SUCK IT UP ALREADY. Can you tell she annoyed me a bit (or a lot) in Poison Promise? :)

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Lauren Fortgang / Length: 11 hrs and 8 mins

If you haven't listened to Lauren narrate this series, you are seriously missing out.

Final Thoughts: Ready for the next adventure because I think I have a new side boyfriend. Finn is still my main man!

So far the best in this series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've followed this series since it started. Some of the books were kind of weak, and I didn't enjoy. Out of the 11, I returned two because the story line annoyed me, and I thought Gin was made to look stupid. This one was really good. Had many twists and turns and showed Gin's growth as a person and maybe it makes her weaker because she cares so much about those close to her, but it makes her stronger because of the bond she feels. I really think this was the best in the series so far.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gin of course. The way she interacts with her friends and relations, her growth and strength from learning to care and go the extra mile for the sake of being true to her feelings, and for what is right. (However she's still not afraid to kick some butt to show that she's still has it)

Which scene was your favorite?

There were several, but the best was at the end when she meets the daughter of her nemesis M. Monroe.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to how Jennifer Estep will continue this story with this new group of villains, who are all related to Gin's past. They seem to be stronger and more powerful than the old ones, and I'm afraid that some of the people Gin knows will be eliminated in the next few installments. It was promised in this one and the only way to continue the story would be to make it happen. Who will be eliminated, or tortured by Gin's enemies? We'll have to wait and see.
