Publisher's summary

The first four series of the original BBC Radio 4 fantastical drama series set in a world almost, but not quite, like our own.

Paul Hilton stars as William Palmer, the immortal, reluctant and unthanked hero protecting mankind from an enemy they resist believing in: the Grey Folk.

Thrilling, dark and contemporary, the dramas are set in a recognisable present day but one haunted by the folktales of the British Isles: drowned villages, changeling children, werewolves and unruly nature spirits.

Like a fantasy version of Doctor Who

Preformed by the BBC with a style reminiscent of old time radio shows. It's like The Shadow meets Dr. Who with a fantasy twist.

very fae

I'm a big fan of this genre and I can't read or watch TV at the moment because of some medical issues so this was a treat.

Like all radio shows it's up to the audience to paint the scenes in their minds eye.

Mainly I just really liked it because it wasn't all fairy people and humans falling in love.
It's the kind of fae stories that makes you wonder why they're called the good folk.

Confusing

Very difficult to follow..audio skips around between scenes and characters. The stories were very imaginative but poorly executed.

there's better radio drama out there

The premise of this story is so interesting I thought I would love it but the writing is really weak - just lots of characters repeating what the previous character just said and lots of shouting. Maybe the books are better. Would not recommend.

Enchanting

I fell in love with this. I listened to it on a lot of rainy forest walks for that’s where the fae might be. You have to pay attention to each of the stories, they all fit neatly together as a continuation of Pilgrim’s life while he travels and the people he encounters along the way. The acting was impressive and the writing was brilliant. I’m really looking forward to 5-8.

Audible Quality is Shockingly Bad

Never again will I listen to an AudioDrama via Audible. To use a 300mb file for an 11Hr AudioDrama is disgusting. This is an audio movie! With full score and sound effects. Normally AudioDrama use at least 100mb per hour; ∴ 11Hrs = 1.1 GB instead this recording is an offensive 30% quality. It’s not good enough. Sounds are distorted, voices clipped. It’s just sad. I feel so bad for the creators, this is not a far representation of their beautiful work. The thing is the story and production is amazing! If interested please please go buy the CD at Book Depositary. And never ever buy AudioDrama from Audible.
