Publisher's summary

To stand at the side of an elemental as their familiar is a gift given to few familiars. Yet here I stand with my thirteenth - Larkspur, child of the earth.

I do not want this charge, for all my previous have ended in deaths I could not prevent. I am not sure my heart can take another loss of one bonded with me.

Larkspur’s strength and heart call to me as only one other elemental's had, and I cannot deny the need to protect her and to shield her from all pain.

This is my story, my struggle to accept Larkspur as my charge, and the last time I will ever have to bond with an elemental. Goddess help me keep us both alive.

It may not be necessary, but it also is…

I absolutely love getting to know Peta better… if you want to know the real Peta, you need this book. This one picks up right around the end of the 2nd book and the beginning of the 3rd. Until this book, I haven’t heard Peta’s full name. The background understanding gained from this book gives so much more life to Peta and who she is as well as why she does and says the things she does. So similar to Lark and you can feel the connections between them growing as this book parallels Firestorm. It gives enough information from Peta’s point of view and insights into her past that it isn’t like re-listening to the same book. It does follow alongside it, but it isn’t quite the same. You could probably skip this one if you wanted, but I feel like the insights make the storyline so much more rich and beautiful.

Getting to know Peta, Larkspur's familiar.

Petra has been a constant in Larkspur's travels. It was nice to get the story of their beginning. This is a snapshot into the mission Lark and Ash went on in an earlier book. We get a better look at and understanding of that time. It answers some questions I had. This entire series has such a wonderful world and character development. I find myself right there in the action.

Love this series! I love cats!

I love cats and Peta is awesome this as one of my favorites so far. Now if I can only get 1 of my 4 cats to be my familia, that would be great but until then I can dream. Must read!

Peta!!

Peta's story is set in Firestorm from Mayer's Elemental deries and is told from the familiar's point of view. It was nice to see more of how Peta and Lark (Dirt Girl as Peta calls her) start to work together and how their bond grew. There are parts that will make you pause and feel sympathetic for one or both characters or laugh. A great short little story! Ms. Fortang did a nice job narrating!

PETA pov

I found this novella interesting and heartbreaking for Peta. Worth a read and as I said before interesting to read/listen to-to see her point of view and things and understand certain things.

Loved!

I loved hearing the beginning of the relationship between Peta and Larkspur from Peta's point of view. It helps that Pets is probably my favorite character from the series. She makes me laugh. As always the narrator does a fantastic job.

Great Novella!

I loved getting this insight into what Peta was thinking. Peta is such a great character and familiar to Lark. After all Peta went through with her other charges it was understandable why she was hesitant with Lark at first. Lauren Fortgang did a great job and really brought Peta character out in this audio book!

Brilliant Bonus from Peta's Perspective!

Shannon Mayer really does it again with this Novella from Peta’s point of view. It isn’t essential for reading the series, but it is definitely a bonus any Elementals fan would love to read. Mayer really showcases her storytelling abilities in this one. It’s so much more than just a re-telling of the story Firestorm. Yes, some bits and pieces are the same (naturally), but instead of re-stating the conversations that already took place, she focuses more on Peta’s internal musings which help explain everything so much better. Peta has always been a fascinating character, but after reading this, I would love to hear her spin on all of the stories in the Elementals series. I truly cannot say enough positive things about this novella. It is my favorite novella I’ve ever read of an author. If you like the Elementals series, you HAVE to read this!
