Publisher's summary

k52 is a vast artificial intelligence with world domination on its mind....

If it succeeds in creating an artificial reality based on our own universe, it could gain enough data to allow it to alter reality itself, turning k52 into the ultimate arbiter of mankind’s fate.

It’s down to Richards and Klein to stop k52 – even though the alternative could be worse!

AI with artificially inflated ego

Omega Point is the conclusion to Guy Haley's Richards and Klein investigation. Richards is a high level AI, while Klein is a former military cyborg. Together, they operate a private detective agency. From the 1st installment, they learned that another high level AI had some plan to disrupt and take over the virtual reality realms. The conclusion is split along two separate tracks with Klein searching for a mysterious hacker connected with a previously unknown realm and Richards who enters the realm and loses his outside connections. This mystery realm has become a dumping ground for older computer systems and functions more like magic.

The sci-fi elements are largely virtual with human machine interfaces that blur the lines between human and machine. While the detective elements are engaging and drive the story forward, the action is mostly concentrated on what happens to Klein and Richards, rather than what they actually do. The duo have enough going for them for possible future adventures.

The narration is solid with a good range of voices, although the pace drags a bit at times.
