Publisher's summary

In the Borrowed World Series, America is brought to its knees by coordinated terror attacks against the infrastructure. After spending weeks walking across a violent and horrific landscape to reach his family, Jim Powell hoped they could weather this storm on their secluded Appalachian farm. They had prepared for this. They had armed for this. They could live without power and fuel. What happens, though, when the same qualities that drew Jim to his isolated valley begin to attract another armed group looking for a place to hide from the unrest of a starving nation?

Franklin Horton's Borrowed World Series has been a best seller in the categories of Post-Apocalyptic and Dystopian Science Fiction. He has been interviewed extensively for podcasts and for print media on the topic of preparedness. The series is noted for its realistic portrayal of how average Americans might be affected by societal collapse.

Horton Left me hanging for the next book!!

Would you consider the audio edition of No Time for Mourning to be better than the print version?

I feel that Franklin Horton is a even and steady author. I love all his books the same. At the end of each book I want more.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love all his conflicts with characters. Each one is different and how they deal with them. I love that the main characters are not always winning. Sometimes more than not you lose in life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

My husband had to ask me to take my earbuds out at the dinner table.

Any additional comments?

Waiting for book 5!

Book Two....now you're hooked!

I intend this review to cover the entire Borrowed World series. Point of fact, I could not stop listening to them. I think Franklin Horton's work here is fantastic. Nicely paced, full of action, with well developed antagonists,to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I appreciate how Mr. Horton stays away from politics and religion (for the large part), and the motivation of the protagonist is universal enough that any reader can slip into his skin. Good job, I look forward to seeing the "Valley Tribe" fares through the winter! Write more, Mr. Horton! Quit your day job and write more!

A great continuation of the Saga in The Valley!

Where does No Time for Mourning rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 10

What did you like best about this story?

No fatalities to the main characters, not ready for any of them to die off although I thought it was about to happen a couple of times.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Pierce – was your favorite?

Jim, because of his dedication to his family and the no non-sense approach he has to doing whatever it takes regardless of how hard it may be.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud several times during some of the conversations between Randi, Lloyd and Buddy. However, my most extreme outburst of laughter was after Gary made his shot and the exchange between him and Jim...not going to elaborate and give it away...LMAO!!!

Any additional comments?

Just love Mr Horton's ability to make me laugh and then cry within 15 minutes of each other, which also has to do with Kevin's tremendous gift of narration. Definitely one of the top five combos of author & narrator in the business!

stick with the first 3

While the first books kept your attention, this book lacked in that area. I found myself wondering who all the characters were and if they would make a meaningful contribution.

Book 4 bounced a bit. Story development was off.

Love the series, book 4 was a bit different than the other 3. I will read and hope book 5 gets back to the style of the first 3 books.

Better research would have made this a better book

Don't kitchen table cauterize wounds with exposed bone and insufficient skin to suture. Don't tell people they can use Chantix as a substitute antidepressant with a severely depressed patient not under a doctor's care. Don't even suggest that dragging a patient out of bed by her hair and telling her to "get it together or go out in the woods and commit suicide" is going to have a positive result for the patient. You can't walk home with untreated giardia or amoebic dysentery. Other then that....

It's a prepper series...and I have listened to a ton of them...but this one is the best out of them all...its accurate..it teaches me stuff...and the characters are really good!!

Which scene was your favorite?

Randy at the end...she is one brave lady man!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep...I had to stop when I had about 2.5hrs left to go to bed....and I was really not ahppy about that...lol

Any additional comments?

THIS WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!!!

Just as I suspected, and this always happens in end of the world situations...the people that are trying to survive become your enemy! JIm and his friends are doing there best to survive and protect each other...there is a lot of violence in this book...and our group was in grave danger! I was very proud of Randy, she has really came a long way, she is one tough lady and I can not wait to see where this series goes next!!!
