Publisher's Summary

Sky Brooks' life started with a death - her own. Sky's spent the first 23 years of her life unaware of this, among other things. She always thought she was just a shapeshifter until she wakes up in a strange house in rural Illinois - battered, bruised, and with only vague memories of her mother's death at the hands of vampires.
At the request of a powerful witch, Sky is put under the protection of the Midwest Pack. But she isn't sure she can trust them, especially after she meets the dangerously sexy Ethan, a pack member who's known for being more ruthless than altruistic. After she's attacked by a necromancer, a mercenary, and the vampires who killed her mother, she has no choice but to accept the pack's help.
The Midwest Pack aren't quite what they seem - but then again, neither is Sky. As they form an uneasy alliance to search for the reason behind the vampires' vicious attacks, it becomes clear that Sky possesses magic no one has ever seen - and it all started with what happened at her birth.

Horrible Narrator! Good story

What did you love best about Moon Tortured?

the story was good and worth reading-dont listen! The narrator is so nasally it is difficult to listen to and it sounds like just reading (no different voices).

How could the performance have been better?

New narrator. Maybe she could have blown her nose and work on voices

Could have been made better with different narrator

I think I probably would've enjoyed the book more if it was narrated by somebody else. I have a pretty big library of books in this category. Everything from the hollows, Mercy Thompson, alpha/omega, Spider assasin series, sookie Stackhouse mysteries, midnight Texas, Kat & Bones, and more so this is really my category and the type of series I hoped for. But I was annoyed by the main character that was a very annoying teen that was not put in her place enough and her defiance did not fit her lack of life experience. Which in turn made her just a bratty know it all. I could feel the author trying, but the narrator ruined it. She switched voices poorly and didn't have many pitch changes at all. She also would occasionally decide a person needed an accent then lose that accent. My biggest complaint is to even be able to read it, I had to speed it up. (X1.25) at least. Every word was read like she was scared to make a mistake and very slowly, and heavily articulated. This made the book 9 hours instead of 14. I really tried to give it a chance. But it took way to long to get going, many insignificant details of room layouts that never saw action, characters that didn't resurface, bland brutish A-typical wolf-Pack mentality, lots of pity, and protecting someone that needed a lesson in life. I tried but the gal reading it made it too difficult to like. I listen to a lot of books, A LOT. Sometimes the worst books can be made better with the reader, I worry that this was the reverse for this one.

Performance slow

The performance is slow at the start but improves as the story progresses.

Overall it's an ok story I'm reading this through my kindle unlimited account and bought the audiobook book to listen to while reading. The writing improves as the story progresses (if this is their first book that would explain it) There's a few times it feels as if the writer has used a thesaurus as the word they've used is out of the blue.

If you like stories with were, vampires and magic then give this a try. I'm going to read the second book to see how the story progresses as I usually find the writing improves in second books or I quickly move onto another book.

Not to my liking

I tried for two hours to like this book. But with the narrator and the story I just couldn't get in to it.
