Publisher's Summary

A century after his recovery of the alien Necroteuch, Gregor Eisenhorn is one of the Imperial Inquisition's most celebrated agents. But when a face from his past returns to haunt him, and he is implicated in a great tragedy that devastates the world of Thracian Primaris, Eisenhorn's universe crumbles around him. The daemon Cherubael is back, and it seeks to bring the inquisitor to ruin - either by his death or by turning him to the service of the Dark Gods.

In a universe far far away … it is the dark ages.

Malleus: Warhammer 40,000
Dan Abnett

A long time ago in a universe far far away … it is the dark ages.

This is Star Wars… but envisioned by Clive Barker, with detailed notes from H.P. Lovecraft, and rocking to a heavy-metal beat.

The Future. Man-kind's Emperium covers the universe. Humans travel great distances by sailing star-ships through "warp space". Manned by psychics who can guide ships through warp space.

Unfortunately, "the Warp" is not just the empty space between stars. It's another dimension. The big unspoken truth of this universe is the Warp might be hell. It's full of horrible ghosts. Human and alien dead. Some have evolved into vastly powerful demonic beings & monster-gods. Unfortunately, by the time man-kind figured this out, the Emperium is as wide, and to travel anywhere you HAVE too use the warp.

The battle to save the human race from corruption from the Warp has been waging for many thousands of years … and is not going well.
Like in the middle ages, much knowledge has been lost.
Superstition has risen.
Science has devolved into a religion where tech-priests pray to machine-spirits.
Ancient and gigantic, battle-ships travel through the void. Many of their gothic-cathedral interiors are now dark and vacant as humanity's armies decrease.

A DARK UNIVERSE so dangerous, so lavish in gothic, dark detail it teeters your mind on the edge of insanity. Mutant-monsters from the WARP threaten the human universe in a epic war that has no end.

What will save humanity from this EXTREMELY frightening vision of the future?

The most powerful thing in the universe is… love.

Dan Abnett's beautifully written characters.
No matter how dire or vile their situation, they are bound together by the greatest power in the universe: LOVE.

Warm-heartfelt friendship, respect, love for their "Master" Eisenhorn, and each other - These friends and comrades fight vast darkness with strength, wit, warmth, humor, and a a eternal feeling that the human spirit will always rise above all the chaotic darkness out of the WARP.

This is brilliant literature not to be missed.

Toby Longworth is an excellent narrator.

Toby Longworth really stands out to me as an excellent narrator, and his ability to be consistent with both subtle and not so subtle character identities is impressive. The story itself is one of the most iconic set to the Warhammer 40,000 backdrop.

Pretty good

Eisenhorn is really OP and this can be a bit cheesy at times but it's still an engaging and interesting story.

an excellent 40k story

Dan Abnett is an exceptional writer, and Toby Longworth's performance leaves little to be desired.
