Publisher's summary

Earth is in chaos. It's a sort of organized chaos to be sure, but when a planet is inhabited by the Alva, a hostile race of aliens from a far-off world, chaos is inevitable. The Randoran from planet Dorn are a warrior race who have feuded with the Alva for centuries, and when they discover that the Alva have taken Earth for their own, they want to help protect the humans if they can. And so a rescue mission is mounted for Earth, and they arrive in style, speaking with the humans to assure them they come in peace before moving on to find the Alva. What they find is awful. The Alva living like kings while humans suffer, some selected ones kept in cages like pets.

Malachi, known as the Champion of the Randoran, goes to speak with the Alvan leader, to tell him that his time is up. He expects threats, maybe even violence. What he doesn't expect is a pair of green eyes to follow him as he walks or to find himself captivated by one of the Alva's prisoners.

As a show of their "good faith" the Alva sell the human woman to him. Malachi means to set her free, but finds that she clings to him, begging him to save her planet, telling him what things used to be like. He finds himself enchanted by this woman and the way Earth once was, and his resolve to see the Alva gone only grows.

Fun Listen-Alien Romance

This is a well-written, sci-fi romance with interesting characters who are believable and likable. Malachi finds himself chasing his enemies to Earth where he encounters Emma who is held their captive. Emma gives Malachi as much intel as she has, as they work to expel the bad guy aliens from Earth. They grow to care about each other over time and develop good banter and a deeper relationship.

Elaine Cashmore's narration is engaging, she has a good feel for delivery and performed the book well. Her pronunciation and enunciation were good.

Malachi ~ Becomes the Defender!

After earth has been invaded by the Alva, humans are either recruited to be soldiers or placed in cages. The Roandoran's who have been feuding with the Alvan's for centuries, come to earth to investigate what the Alvan's are up too, and are shocked to learn what has been happening.

Malachi, one of the Randoran's warriors request to see the Alvan's leader and gets a first hand glimpse of what the humans have been enduring. During this meeting he knows he cannot save these humans now, but he's given the chance to buy one named Emma. Even though Emma was technically bought by Malachi, she cannot deny her attraction to him, but his friend doesn't understand why he drawn to her.

I know these are aliens; however, their description and mannerism came across more like someone from a different county. I was expecting the characters to be more aliens like the ones from the story "Chosen by the Alien." The other minor concern I had with the was the timeline and flow. When I got to the scene where Emma had been in cage, I did not realize a year had passed. Maybe I missed something there.

The narration by Elaine Cashmore was good. I'm not sure if this is her first story; however, she had a clear voice, and it seemed the further into the story, the more confident she become with her narration. My only other observation, is with the editing in between the sentences, in the beginning you could hear deep breaths, but these seemed diminished or I no longer noticed them towards the end of the story.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest opinion, and overall I'm giving the story an overall 3.5 stars!

Great Sci-Fi Romance

This story was very well written and the characters were well developed. It was interesting and captivating. It was very hard to put down. I throughly enjoyed listening to it.

Malachi is the perfect hero! He is very strong but compassionate. He is the top warrior of his planet. He comes to Earth to investigate why his enemies have come to Earth.

Emma is an Earth girl that gets captured by the Alva, which invades Earth and starts killing and taking people prisoners.

The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life. It is a full story with no cliffhangers and a delightful HEA conclusion! Looking forward to listening to more books by this author!

Reading this might’ve been better

I couldn’t decide if it was the style of the writing or the narrator that caused me not to enjoy this story. The narrator read the story as though she was in a race to the finish line and she made no attempt to change voices when the characters spoke. It was weird to hear Malachi speak in a little girl’s voice. I may have enjoyed the story if I was reading it and using my own imagination. However, I’m not sure about that. I thought about finishing the book if the narrator changes in the future books. But looking ahead I see it’s the same narrator for the series. So I decided not to even bother finishing this one.

Great first contact

What did you love best about Malachi?

I was given this story for an honest review. I enjoyed the story of Earth's "first contact". The story only focuses on one small part of a city that Emma lives in. I like that Emma is a normal person dealing with very real problems when the Alva attack. I also love how developed Malicious as a character. He had his doubts and fears as well. So much so that he wasn't the most confident person when it came to starting their relationship. I felt that the story was well thought out and well written . I can't wait to the next book .

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Although the narrator had a good voice and did the voices for the characters well, I felt she read a bit fast. I had to stop serval times to make sure the story was still in normal speed. Though it didn't take away from the story.

loved it!

I really liked this story. but the voice actress seemed in such a rush while reading it at some points that two different characters dialogues blended together. I love Ashley West's books and look forward to the next.

Another great book

The characters and circumstances of this book combined together to create a fun romp. This book has it all from action to humor to romance. Malachi is a hero's hero, he's tough when he needs to be but he's got heart. Emma's tough as nails but soft in the middle heroin. The two together create a great story. It's not your typical romance packed with a little bit of erotic fantasy but lots of action. Overall it was a good book and very enjoyable.
