Publisher's summary

Sometimes the penalty for magic is death.

The Midwest Pack used the Clostra to perform a powerful and dangerous spell to save me. Now the pack is dealing with the aftermath and doing damage control. But they can't hide how the magic has changed the dynamics of the otherworld-or that they are responsible.

Ethan has dangerous secrets and so do I. The worst one: I developed new and disturbing powers reminiscent of a deadly being that once ruled and terrorized the otherworld. What Ethan and I are has been exposed. The penalty for it is a death sentence. The Creed wants to enforce the punishment.

The Midwest Pack's priority has always been to protect the pack. Protecting becomes complicated when a new pack emerges, aided by a powerful new ally, and tries to take over the Midwest Pack's territory by force.

In order to survive, the pack must call in all favors and form uneasy alliances. But will that be enough?

Good narration, great story!!

This book did a good job of moving along the story and still making me anticipate the next book. The romantic relationship between Skylar and Ethan gets more interesting. Politics between the species heats up, in part due to interference from old enemies. New dangers and challenges arise. This book is full of good world building, drama, romance and humor. Highly recommend!

Yes!!

This book was so satisfying! There were so many parts of the book that I kept returning too. I have at least 5 parts of the book I will keep rereading. Sky has truly become her own person and a valued member of the pack! I loved it and will read again!

good, but severe continuity errors

I enjoyed this book. I recommend that people who like urban fantasy read it.

That said…

The story:
--Enjoyable, but perhaps set in an alternative universe? Many facts seem to have changed slightly. I guess the beta readers and editors dropped the ball. maybe next time you can find some people who have actually read the other books in the series?

The narrator:
--she actually did a pretty good job. On the other hand, her producer bungled the job there are many places where the performance should have been edited and was not. Bad Tantor.

The authors thesaurus:
--seems to have worked very hard on this book. Perhaps it worked a bit too hard?

Great dialog.

Great imagery and vocabulary. Strong character development. Wry humor permeates the repartee between characters

much much better

I did not leave a good review on the last books but I feel like this book made so much more the difference. she grew up and she stopped whinning. I really like her snarky comments and her approach . I do wish she would except her wolf and it makes me wonder if maybe the shade might have been having some dealings in her ability to except who she is.

Love this series and narrator but...

The book was great but left the missing girls storyline hanging too long. Also the narrator seemed to have a cold between her wheezing and loud swallowing. I've never noticed her doing that before
