Publisher's summary

I'm the guy you come to when your spouse gets bitten by a werewolf, or your honey is kidnapped by a demon. I'm the guy who knows how to save you from an evil curse or angry vampire.

At least, I was that guy until the Society of Shadows sent me to Dearmont, Maine, a sleepy town that had a zero rating on the supernatural occurrences scale.

My plan was to spend my days sitting in the office with nothing to do except drink coffee and eat apple bakes made by Felicity, my new assistant.

But when a woman hires me to find out if her son has been possessed by a demon at a rich kids' party, and a young man comes to the office insisting he's been bitten by a werewolf, Dearmont goes from zero to hero.

Oh, and did I mention that someone in the Society wants me dead?

Time to sharpen the swords and go to work.

Great new series!

I want more and want it now! This is a new exciting series on the fantasy- paranormal scene. It has many elements of the Harry Dresden novels without the family or political issues, just yet. The seeds for political intrigue and family betrayal have been planted.

Alec comes across as an insufferable paranormal snob. He has been exiled to the proverbial idyllic town when he discovers all is not what it seems. There is not enough landscape on his back for all the daggers that are being aimed at him. There are enough paranormal activities to keep him busy and enough to get him into trouble, ie foraging an alliance with the witches in the community.
.
I want to see how the series will develop.

Action, great characters, fun, but very short

I really enjoyed this book! Alec is a really like able and competent character and we are introduced to other cool people along the way. The story is well paced--it had to be cause the book was way too short. So far he's not a powerhouse character but he does kick butt. I will definitely be keeping up with this series.

Instant kick off to a new series!

I like this Book very much, and as much as I like urban fantasy, it's one of the better I have enjoyed. My only real problem with the book and the series as far as I can tell, is the fact that the stories are way too short! Four hours and 40 some odd minutes does not make for a satisfying series! Still, it's a fun afternoon's listening pleasure!

Good but needs expansion

Male lead in a paranormal mystery series? The Harry Dresden and Iron Druid comparisons are unavoidable. Unfortunately the story is too short to flesh out much of the potential.

There are three story questions here. The primary mystery: are Jason and Sarah possessed or kidnapped by faeries, is answered by the end of the book. The second, who turned the new guy into a werewolf, could have added a good bit to the book but seems to have been handwaved off screen and added as a storyline just to bring the wolves in as a deus ex machina at the climax. It worked, but it could have been so much better if we had any expansion on the wolves themselves or their story. Then the third question, who wants Alex dead and why, is set up as a continuing story question for the series, so we get clues to the problem and an end scene teaser, but no real idea of what is going on.

Overall I'd say it's an OK beginning to a new series, but this really should have been expanded from a novella (under 5 hours) to at least an 8 hour story. There is more than enough material to make that work. The rest of the series on Audible are also under 5 hours so I'm guessing that it doesn't get a lot better from here. I bought this on sale for under $5, but I don't feel compelled to finish the series buying novellas for the full +$10 or full credit price.

Great start to a new series

I enjoyed this intro to the Harbinger P.I. series a great deal. There is obviously backstory that is hinted at but not yet developed, and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Pretty Good but short

Good story, great narration but very short. I will be looking forward to the next books in this series and might even just go get the print books to read. I do have the complaint that the main character though looked at as smart, and sharp is rather dim a good amount of the time and don't seem to actually think much about what he is doing and what information he has. This is a typical crutch for some authors to keep the story moving and the mystery unsolved until the end. overall good laid back listen though.

An Interesting Start

I enjoyed this story and the characters. The only thing I didn't like was that everything got wrapped up very quickly at the end. I look forward to the next book.

Couldn't stop listening

What made the experience of listening to Lost Soul the most enjoyable?

Mr. Tremblay did a great job narrating. The story was engaging and pulled me in.

What did you like best about this story?

The action kept coming, the characters were enjoyable. The level of character depth was appropriate for what was going on, several people being tossed together for the first time, with the exception of 2 characters and their friendship and comfort with each other really worked. While there wasn't a ton of depth/background to the characters, which was right for the story, you could feel the undercurrents of there being more that will come out in future books.

What does Greg Tremblay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love well narrated audiobooks, it lets me do something else (dishes, cook, drive, etc.) while "reading".

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Didn't want to hit pause.

Very much enjoyed the book and the reader. Book two is not yet available in audio but I'm hoping it will be soon.

Preternatural Investigation

What did you love best about Lost Soul?

I liked the premise of the story. I liked that it reminded me of the beginning of a 1940's detective novel and then morphed into a lot more paranormal, supernatural type mystery.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Felicity Lake is my favorite character because she's unassuming and doesn't really know how smart or strong she really is.

Have you listened to any of Greg Tremblay’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first, but I am a solid fan of his narration now.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The mystery of the locked door in Alec's brain.
