Publisher's summary

Doomsday plus 10 years - and Earth is a living horror.

The last battle burned the planet to a charred husk, and civilization is nothing more than a few scattered tribes...like the surviving corps of elite killers who served the old dictatorship....or the sadistic bands of motorcycle hoods, prowling the ruins for victims...or the slavers, mutants and madmen preying on those who hope to rebuild the future. Only a brave handful like Logan and his family, who are the hunted in a world of vicious predators, hope to save the strange and bloody land that is Logan's World.

Very interesting, and very different

I love dystopian fiction, and the world of Logan's Run has fascinated me since I initially discovered the movie in high school. I always say that all good science fiction should make you think, should present an idea or concept. While the concepts of the immediate threat of nuclear war and overpopulation found in Logan's Run were prevalent in the 1970's, it's sequel, Logan's World is even more significant to today's world. In Logan's Run we see a society in which the computer, the Thinker, had been running society, controlling not only the people, but also all robots, other computers, and basic services like electricity. In this book, Logan is dealing with the consequences of having destroyed the machine after returning to Earth roughly seven years after the events of the first book. This book speaks to the ideas of over-reliance on computers, and the effects on society in which the oldest person is in their 20's, and humanity no longer knows how to behave in a civilized fashion after years of self serving instant gratification under the Thinker. It is a fascinating book.....one I highly recommend.

Logan's Run, reprised

This is book 3 of 3, which I'm reviewing as a set. I enjoyed the movie (and somewhat, the TV series), so I was drawn to the audiobook. I wouldn't consider Logan's run good writing, at all, but I found it entertaining, none-the-less. The characters are extremely shallow, the plot contrived, and there are serious flaws in the whole concept. Still, if you have good feelings about the movie, you'll find this series tolerable.

The first book in the series is the movie (with some differences). The second two books in the series continue the story. Book two is essentially a "return of Logan" that quickly breaks down into a haphazard search for his lost wife ending in a somewhat disappointing battle royal. Book three is an alternative reality 'cheat' to put a different twist on the first book.

The performance is not good. The reader talks very slow which tends to sap the energy out of the story. However, I found that my iPod allows me to increase the speed (x2) which made it very comfortable with minimal distortion in only a few spots. I would totally recommend you do the same. I find it hard to beleive that the producers couldn't do this for us!

All-in-all, if you are listening to the series for the sake of nostalgia, then you'll probably have a good time.

Logan's World

This was leaps and bounds better then the original. This was an excellent story. While I felt the author was quick to jump from point-to-point-to-point with very little description. The concept of this world was intriguing and could hold so many more adventures. The problem is the author left too many gaps and not enough detail. I look forward to reading the third bood in the series, Logan's Search.

Narration at a Snail’s Pace

After the first book, the only reason I listened to this book, and going to listen to the next book is just to complete the story. I purchased the trilogy on sale, but wish I had listened to a sample first The narrator speaks at such a slow pace that it’s painful to listen. I normally listen to books at normal speed, but I had to listen to this one at 1.5 times speed just to make it bearable. The previous book 1.4 speed was bearable. I’m wondering if the third book will even be slower

Not as good as Logans Run but not bad

This is a meandering book with a good plot but a story that just likes to travel almost as much as Logan does. It's very dated and much more sexual than I expected. That being said, it's an interesting story that feels more like the basis for world building than a full on novel.

falls off from the first novel

This story isn't nearly as good as Logan's Run, making me think the loss of the co-author was significant

A for effort storyline.

A decent continuation of the story of Logan's Run, if not a little implausible for several aspects of the plot,
