The narrator was OK. But he made it sound kind of cheesy. It may have been the writing. If there is one thing to take away from this book it is the word "thickened" which the author over used. A lot.
It wasn't terrible. But with generic names, places, characters, and story line, this isn't a book for someone who is looking for different or fun military sci-fi. It isn't funny. It tries. But fails.
David Weber does it better.
The good stuff is how quickly the author can drop info dumps to the reader. The tech wasn't overwhelming like Weber likes to do.
The best writing from the author is when the main character's son gives him a message from 200 years ago. It isn't so simple as the rest of the story and the character actually reacted in a very reasonable and human way.
Give it a chance. I will definitely pay attention to this author as his writing has significantly improved.
