Not a lot of science in this science fiction work
Not the worst, yet not the best. Probably the middle of the pack.
The storyline was fine. It just could've used more techy stuff interjected into the story line. Also, I might've expanded on the ending. But, I can't say more without spoiling it for others.

I've seen different references that this takes place either chronologically before, or parallel with Mote in God's Eye, so I decided to read this one first, and am now working on Mote. What will be interesting to see is if there is more back story in Mote, which was sorely lacking in KDS
