Whatever is a time-displaced queen of magic and minions to do? Why, rebuild her kingdom, of course - two kingdoms, in fact: as Campaign Boss for the reelection of American President Malory Beckham Hinton, and as owner of the London Knights world-champion baseball franchise.
Written as though by the old master himself, King Arthur's Sister in Washington's Court by Mark Twain as channeled by Kim Iverson Headlee offers laughs, love, and a candid look at American society, popular culture, politics, baseball...and the human heart.

Laugh out loud, then think some deep thoughts
It's been far too long since we've had some Kim Iverson Headlee around here, so I was more than happy to sign up for the audio tour of a book I'd already loved. King Arthur's Sister in Washington's Court is her funniest book yet, and even if you've never read the Twain book which inspired this, you'll enjoy the humorous historical fantasy.
Political humor and social satire combine in Headlee's trademark style, infused with her roots as a lover of history and all things Arthurian. She has this way of making you forget that she wasn't the one who came up with these myths in the first place and truly writes with a unique perspective that delights readers with wit and wisdom.
Although I admit it took me some time to get used to the narrator, as she took a little bit to get into the groove, if you skip the introductory material on the audible version you will have much smoother sailing. There's so many accent changes between those that it gets a bit confusing and hard to understand, however, once the story gets going I think the narrator did very well in distinguishing between characters and really portraying the various emotions. How she managed to actually read through some parts without spitting and snort laughing I'll never know! Definitely a recommended audiobook for a car trip, or cooking, or whatever else you might like to do while you listen.
4 stars and my thanks to the author and tour host for the review opportunity!
