Okay at best

I enjoyed Gemini Cell, but it got a little silly at the end. This book quickly descends into Jason and the Argonauts with guns.

I stopped half way through.

Doesn't pull punches

Any additional comments?

Admittedly, I am annoyed with myself. Over the last couple years I basically took a hiatus from fantasy because I felt like I was getting nitpicky and bored. Maybe it was accidental echo chambers online, or because I moved to a rural town where I didn’t have friends to talk books with, or that I’d never managed to get to a con so I was missing out on everything that was really out there. The truth is I should have been looking harder to find what I really wanted, now I have, and I’m playing catch-up with this series.

Cole’s books are just about everything that I actually wanted from urban fantasy. They’re actualized, they don’t pull punches, they’re gritty and harsh. I spent a fair amount of time cursing him for what he was doing to the characters as I listened to the audiobook. When I say cursing, I mean out loud, actual curse words because I’ve been pampered by authors going out of their way to mitigate the consequences of their character’s actions and saving the ones that are my darlings and Cole doesn’t bother. *Precisely* why his books are so damn good.

Cole also does the military right (he has served) but one of the real highlights to me is that his female characters are sooooo good. They exhibit different kinds of strength, they aren’t reflections of each other, they are individual characters with their own motivations. I love Sarah. I love how Jim loves Sarah. There is a very real, beautiful romance in this story that drives the action. There were times my heart pounded for the both of them. It was delicious and heady.

To sum it up- this series is smart, action-packed, multi-faceted, and exactly what I was looking for, I hope you check them out. I've already got Siege Line downloaded and ready to go.

Riveting sequel to Gemini Cell

Make Cole does it again and ups his game with this sequel to Gemini Cell. Our supernatural undead hero is in the fight for his spiritual life against a malevolent group that leaves carnage and destruction in its wake in an effort to bring him back in... Or kill him and everyone he loves in the process.
