Publisher's Summary

They are coming. The countdown has begun.
First visible only as blips on a telescope image, the discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter's orbit immediately sets humanity on edge. NASA doesn't even bother to deny the alien ships' existence. The popular Astral space app (broadcasting from the far side of the moon and accessible by anyone with Internet) has already shown the populace what is coming. So the news has turned from evasion to triage, urging calm and offering the few facts they have:
The objects are enormous, perfectly round spheres numbering in the dozens, maybe hundreds. They are on an approach vector for Earth. And they will arrive in six days.

Entertaining

Well, I've been getting acquainted with Platt/Truant recently and enjoy their work. This was no exception. I thought there were a lot of positive aspects to this story- swift pace, action, general theme.

My only real complaints, if you can call them that, center on the general implausibility of the protagonist and his life story. It's just so oddly juxtaposed against the rest of the plot. Maybe it will end up playing a bigger roll in the series as a whole. We will see. There are lots of ways to make the main character have a ton of money- they chose a very strange one in my opinion.

Very abrupt ending that seemed to negate a lot of the book leading up to the final 5 minutes or so. I'm also banking on the probability that this will make sense in future installments.

Worth a listen and your time. Should end up being a great series.

High Octane Science Fiction at Its Best

A disclaimer: Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt are two of my favorite living authors and Ray Porter is one of my favorite narrators. So it's no surprise that I loved this book. For that reason you may want to take this review with a grain of salt.

A word of warning: This book should be rated R. for content. It is not for children.

The aliens are coming! And everyone is losing their shit! Everyone that is, except for Meyer Dempsey. He has a plan. This is the story of his quest to make sure his family is as safe as possible in this brave new world.

This is truly a book you can't put down until it's finished. When I got it on Kindle I read it in a little under 10 hours. It's the first book I finished with my own eyes in 20 years. Usually, I'll buy a book on Kindle, start reading it, give up and wait for the audio version. This story wouldn't let me put it down.

When I saw that Ray Porter was narrating the audio version I know I had to have it. Ray has a way of reading fast-paced, high-energy material that really pulls you in. Also, thanks to Ray the character in the book who most annoyed me was far more tolerable. The voice Ray gave Raj is far less annoying than the one I gave him in my head. Thanks Ray!

If you liked The Beam or Robot Proletariat written by Johnny and Sean you'll love this book. Likewise if you like anything narrated by Ray Porter (especially if you like the Joe Ledger series) you'll love this book.

I hope Ray continues to narrate the series!
