Publisher's summary

2067 was the year I died for the first time. It was painful. Had I known how often I'd be expected to die over the next several millennia, I might have made a stronger effort to stay dead. The year actually started off rather nice. I finished my PhD in high energy physics and was promoted to lieutenant commander in the United States Air Force. My first posting after the promotion was to the Lunar One Air Base where I worked with my father, Dr. Robert Kimbridge, on "The Project". "The Project" was our name for a VASIMR Ion Drive interplanetary space craft that used thorium LFTR reactors for both shielding and power. Capable of a sustained point-one G of acceleration, our prototype was expected to make the Mars run in less than a week. By the end of November the ESX Arizona was ready for her first trial runs and I was her pilot. History has an odd way of repeating itself.

Uncounted millennia ago the uncreated Creator reached forth a hand and touched a series of disparate universes. The touch set in motion ripples that created life in the Creator's image...a life that was self-aware...a life that aspired to be more than it was...a life that sought to create in its own right. Love and fear walked hand in hand. Thus the stage was set for an epic conflict that would span the universes. These are the adventures of one brave soul and her quest to protect all life. These are the Catherine Kimbridge Chronicles.

A Welcomed and enjoyable experience

In a sea of sci fi settings that often focus on the technological, this one is a refreshing change by retaining the spiritual side of humanity. It isn't the central focus of the plot, just a part of the setting where so many others treat the subject with extremes at both ends of the acceptance/rejection spectrum. The story itself was entertaining and engaging, from a strong female lead to a wonderful supporting cast, Ken and Ben, both the AI and the character who adopts the name later in the story, are my favorite. I would go into reasons why, but listing them would head into spoiler country. There is tech for those who like to geek out over it, like me, action, with vast battles in space, meeting strange new civilizations, touching on the different types of alien life forms (not just the suits or prosthetics added types), the 'risk all' taking chances to win, and not just a fight, but winning over that new life and new civilizations. It also wraps up the plot nicely by the end, while at the same time leaving open other stories that could be told in this wonderful setting with the character who informally is called Cat. Alexis does a wonderful job reading this story, the inclusions of accents were well done, enough so I wish some minor characters with specific ones were around longer in the story just to hear more. For some characters the voice used for them were so distinctive, I knew immediately who was talking without the 'he said' or 'she said' that names the speaker. All in all, a wonderful experience that I shall definitely repeat listening to this first chronicle of Catherine Kimbridge.

Good book

Loved the book, but the inconsistent volume of the narrator made it hard to listen to. Hopefully the next book has a different narrator or more consistent volume.

Good story.

The Audiobook was pretty much what you would expect from Space Opera. Not amazing, but nice to listen to while working. The Narration was good, and my only complaint would be that the voice of the AI's was a little low compared to the other voices. Good read.

GREAT/AWESOME book. BAD narrator.

My only complaint is the narrator and how certain words were pronounced. Take Admiralty its pronounced as "Admiral" then add "TY" to the end. not admiralality. Dont know why that got to me so much but it did. That in turn made me focus more on the narrator and less on the book. Still a great book just ask the narrator to do a better job.

Poor story

Oh, what a miracle that every problem and challenge is cured by an alien AI. The main character is flat and boring.
