Be a hero in the ultimate game.
Are you a top-rated gamer?
Then you might have the skills to play the Game...where players are sponsored by actual demon lords, gods and goddesses, or Lovecraftian nightmares.
Enter Thera, a real kingdom at the crossroads of many other worlds, but with all the augmented-reality interfaces, character progression, and game mechanics that players know and love.
And the stakes of the Game?
Nothing less than Creation - every world in every universe and reality.
Thus Hector Savage, gamer extraordinaire, comes to Thera. Nothing can prepare him, though, for the schemes of Abyssal Lords, rampaging barbarian ghosts, and a host of nefarious forces who want him dead - before he can even make fifth level!

Wonderful in book and audio formats!
If your a fan of fantasy and video games you can not go wrong listening to this wonderful audio book. Hero of Thera is the type of book/audio book that you just want to keep reading/listening to to the very end, then start it up again. The characters are well written and like-able allowing you to enjoy the journey along with them.
I enjoy following Hector on his journey and seeing how he reacted to the world around him.
Jeff Hays narrates Eric Nylunds wonderful story perfectly. Engaging from the first moment to the very end. His voices he used were spot on for the characters and made the story even better.
I just really enjoyed it. As a game and avid reader of fantasy / sci-fi it hit the spot!
If you have enjoyed any of Eric Nylunds other titles like the mortal coils series this is a must read/listen.
I received a copy of the audio title for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

Terrific read of a great book
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review
I have already read Hero of Thera in softcover format so I knew the story. But if anything, that made listening to this story even more enjoyable. Jeff Hays really brings this book to life and is a terrific narrator.
This is a story written by a gamer for gamers. I haven't played a video game in over 20 years, but I play Dungeons and Dragons and this book is every D&D gamer's vision and imagination brought to life. What if you were playing in a game and suddenly were in the game? What would you do?
But you don't need to be a gamer to really appreciate this book. Nylund is a great storytelelr, and this is a fun story. If you expect deep meaning here, move along. But if you want a great story, stop and try this one.
Hard to say, as LitRPG is not a genre I've done much, but Ready, Player One is the obvious comparison. It's a comparison, though. Hero of Thera is a completely different book with an entirely different premise.
I liked the first character, Hector. Since I had read the book previously, I had him envisioned in my mind before Hays started reading it.
How would you play the game if you knew you were going to die?
