Publisher's Summary

Set on the Earth-like planet Helliconia, this is an epic chronicling the rise and fall of a civilization over more than a thousand years. The great drama of life on Helliconia is shaped by its cosmic limitations. In fierce contrasts of climate, whole seasons last for centuries and civilizations rise and fall as the planet orbits the giant sun Freyr every 3000 years.

Fascinating universe creation...

I'm still unsure about some of the Gaia-inspired ideas, but very interesting and very well put together. The evolution of a civilization over millennia is very well done. I kept wondering if the narrator's British accent was a nod to the nationality of the author. :)
