Publisher's summary

An electrifying thriller from the New York Times best-selling author in the Star Trek: The Next Generation universe.

It's 2031. US Air Force fighter jets shoot down an unidentified spacecraft and take its crew into custody. Soon it's learned that the ship is one of several dispatched across space by an alien species, the Eizand, to search for a new home before their own world becomes uninhabitable. Fearing extraterrestrial invasion, government and military agencies that for more than 80 years have operated in secret swing into action, charged with protecting humanity no matter the cost....

It's 2386. Continuing their exploration of the Odyssean Pass, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the starship Enterprise discover what they at first believe is a previously uncharted world, with a civilization still recovering from the effects of global nuclear war. An astonishing priority message from Starfleet Command warns that there's more to this planet than meets the eye, and Picard soon realizes that the mysteries of this world may well weave through centuries of undisclosed human history....

Another Great Trek Story

Dayton Ward has managed another inventive Trek story & Robert Petkoff's narration knocks it out of the park. Was thrilled to see another new Star Trek book on audible, pre ordered this with the kindle book for amazon immersive reading which enhances the experience, allowing me to read or listen even both give it a try if you haven't yet. This book I couldn't put down, switches between 2 time periods, one being current day TNG continuing the Odyssean Pass exploration and an earth period in our near future, the plot revolving around the intersection of these two periods. Dayton Ward has an excellent grasp on the characters & their nuances, his writing has that comfortable familiarity with all the enjoyable idiosyncrasies of our favorite crew members and the dynamics between them. I recommend reading/listening to the new 2017 Trek in order but it's not necessary, you may just get a spoiler or two but will be no means ruin any of them if you do them out of order and this is enjoyable as a stand alone book. Section 31 Control, John Jackson Miller's Prey Series, Dayton Ward's Headlong Flight these are the earlier releases this year that include the Odyssean Pass. I will continue to pre-order any & all Star Trek unabridged offerings on audible to encourage the production of more and will continue pre-ordering all Dayton Ward Trek on Kindle as he never dissapoints!

Agony

I have read or listened to at least 6 of his star trek books and have not enjoyed any of them (nor has my family) I am a huge star trek fan and own over300 star trek books and this writer is an embarrassment to those who preceded him. I thought he would improve, unfortunately he
has not. I won't be wasting my money or time further!
The dialog is stilted, character development is disappointing. When the author describes technology it reads like a textbook-rather than a novel. His spattering of profanity from our trusted established characters is out of form. When I read or listen to his books it is excruciatingly painful! Does the publisher sleep with him? I can't think of any reason he should be published, let alone published by the star trek franchise.

Dayton does it again!

Another great TNG installment. It touched on generations of Trek lore yet still seemed fresh. Dayton never disappoints. And once again Petcoff's narration brings to life all that we love about Star Trek. Whether he likes it or nit, he's the new voice of the Star Trek literary world.

Long slow story

Dissatisfied with a long slow back story. If only this was as long as a 1 hour episode of TNG it would have been ok. Don’t waste your time listening to this one.

Faltered At The End

Like other who have reviewed this piece, I found the ending confusing and confounding, not having at all to do with the prior many chapters, which otherwise were a great Star Trekian read. The narration was top notch. I especially liked Picard's narration. Felt like I was watching the original series.

Awesome narrator

Robert Petkoff range of character voices made it easy to picture Captain Picard, Worf and a number of other characters. I watched Assignment: Earth from TOS one evening and it brought Gary Seven to life too. Fun listening.

Great narration but otherwise, not so good.

Slow, narrator was excellent, but could not warm up to Wards crewmembers. Had the same problems with other Dayton Ward books.

Fantastic story with many a twist

Well constructed, well written and well read story. Loved it! The plot is really interesting and answered some questions I had regarding the star trek universe, while the pace of the story did not let me be bored for one minute.
