Publisher's Summary

“Sam was brushing her hair when the girl in the mirror put down the hairbrush, smiled, and said, "We don't love you anymore." So began the Twitter Audio project, with a dazzling first line penned by New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman. What followed was an epic tale of imaginary lands, magical objects, haunting melodies, plucky sidekicks, menacing villains, and much more.
From mystical blue roses to enchanted mirrors to pesky puppets, this classic fable was born from the collective creativity of more than one hundred contributors via the social network in a groundbreaking literary experiment. Together, virtual strangers crafted a rollicking story of a young girl’s journey with love, forgiveness, and acceptance.

Failed experiment

I utterly love Neil Gaimsn, so I'm going to pretend this never happened. Even with the incomparable Kayherine Kellgren as narrator, this is almost unlistenable. It's a hot mess of loose ends and inconsistencies desperately patched together with cliches and compromise. The impression left is that Gaiman's Twitter followers came up with ideas that were either stupid or obvious, and didn't listen to each other, and it was left to Gaiman to try and force it all together. At least, I sincerely hope so.

Loved it!

I loved this story! This was a neat little fairytale retold at least that’s what it felt like to me. It has shades of Alice in Wonderland in fact there is a cute little epilogue I enjoyed too. I don’t want to say too much since it is a short story I don’t want to give anything away to detract you from enjoying this one!

I must say that I am a Neil Gaiman fan and a Katherine Kellgren fan but I think even if I wasn’t I would have enjoyed this story!

This audiobook is only an hour and forty-five minutes long and well worth the $1.95 audible is charging.

Hearts, Keys, and puppetry ✌🏻

Yet another very awesome book by my now, very favourite author.
He's from my home town which makes my appraisal etc of what I've listened too (a motorcycle accident on March 1st 1991 courtesy of a drunk driver hitting me and my motorcycle late night with 2 paralysed arms and partial neck paralysis at 19. I so very much wanted to write and more importantly, read books but my disability and the lack of using my hand(S) to turn pages was virtually impossible. As technology moves on, I was introduced to Audible.
I can now get to listen (read) books again!!! My world has opened up again with a Titan sized thank you very much to Audible and Neil Gaiman!!! By the way, if anyone's reading my appraisal, I'm typing with a capacitive stick in my mouth.
I have to say that apart from American Gods, this was almost magical, enthralling a read. I've now thankfully downloaded via this app nearly all of Neil Gaiman's books available in Audible - THIS is a MUST listen/read. Neil Gaiman NEVER FAILS to whisk you and your imagination away to fantastical places and people etc. Please do yourself a very big favour and submerse yourself into this book ~ absolutely fantastic and awesome!!!!
Very best wishes to you all. Vaughan ✌🏻

Simple and light - suitable for a young audience

Would you try another book written by Neil Gaiman and The Twitterverse or narrated by Katherine Kellgren?

Definitely - enjoyed the narration style and while the story was more suitable to a young audience it was well written and an easy listen

If you’ve listened to books by Neil Gaiman and The Twitterverse before, how does this one compare?

Average . Enjoyed other books by Neil Gaiman much better.

Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favourite?

The Badger

Was Hearts, Keys, and Puppetry worth the listening time?

Yes. Wasn't the best and most stimulating thing I've listened to but was pleasant enough.

Any additional comments?

Probably a good book for female Tweens
