Publisher's summary

Alex Bledsoe continues the adventures of freelance sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse in the thrilling He Drank, and Saw the Spider.

After he fails to save a stranger from being mauled to death by a bear, a young mercenary is saddled with the baby girl the man died to protect. He leaves her with a kindly shepherd family and goes on with his violent life.

Now, 16 years later, that young mercenary has grown up to become cynical sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse. When his vacation travels bring him back to that same part of the world, he can't resist trying to discover what has become of the mysterious infant.

He finds that the child, now a lovely young teenager named Isadora, is at the center of a complicated web of intrigue involving two feuding kings, a smitten prince, a powerful sorceress, an inhuman monster, and long-buried secrets too shocking to imagine. And once again she needs his help.

They say a spider in your cup will poison you but only if you see it. Eddie, helped by his smart, resourceful girlfriend Liz, must look through the dregs of the past to find the truth about the present - and risk what might happen if he, too, sees the spider.

Funny, intelligent and read by the best!

I have listened to the entire series back to back with as little down time as I could manage. Stefan Rudnicki’s voice is deep and buttery. The stories of Eddie the Sword Jockeys adventures will keep you laughing and begging for more. The mysteries are engrossing and hilarious or and plenty of swash buckling for the guys. Well done Alex Bledsoe!

winning combo!

Bledsoe and Rudnicki are a fantastic pairing! Each is talented on their own, but together they each shine just a little more. I happily follow both their works at this point.

This series is best enjoyed from the start, as there are references to what came before. Yet each of also it's own mystery, and Bledsoe is skilled at dropping in just enough reference that a newcomer can get the joke, if a beat behind.

There stories pull us in, and keep us listening, and likely even laughing, along with the characters and writer.

A delightful mix of a medieval setting with 20th century hard boiled mystery, with a smattering of anachronistic references for the modern reader's fancy and sensibilities. Highly recommended!

Ok

It’s ok, some of it is a bit lame , however the overall story is decent. Other books in this series are better.

The story’s nuances are amazing.

I thoroughly enjoy listening to the Eddie LaCrosse series. It’s a fantastic escape and listening to the narrators voice just pulls you in even more.

Loved this series!

I think this may be my favorite of the LaCrosse stories. Witty, twisty and very entertaining. Alex Bledsoe knows how to spin a tale.

Every Single Time

Alex does it again. The way he tells an old story in a completely new way is amazing. I’m always engaged from the very first word. And even though I kind of know what the end will be the spiraling staircase through the book is a constant source of amazement and the end ALWAYS surprises me.
