What disappointed you about HALO: Hunters in the Dark?
This book decided it would have all it's characters be simple and single layered. It brought down already developed characters such as Sarah Osman and it didn't progress or add to the story of Halo in any positive way.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I am a huge Halo fan. I feel like this was a complete throw away novel. To change the story to something i would find more enjoyable i would make Luther Mann a more solid character and not have everything just magically line up to fix problems that should have better answers to, and saying that i would need to remove the Spartan 4s since one is a solve everything by just being there character and the other is a background soldier with no reason to be there.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Every character was its own. Dialogue was lacking but that's not the readers fault.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from HALO: Hunters in the Dark?
I feel like i'm being way to harsh on this novel, but as a Halo novel this falls way short. I would cut every scene with Sarah Osman do to the fact that they all make her seem incompetent.
Any additional comments?
First and foremost i am a crazy person who thought about this too long.
The worst books i ever read were the Innocent Mage / the Awakened Mage by Karen Miller because the dialogue was crap, along with the characters being single layered and felt the lack of progression.
Now this book is far from those but my complaints remain and to put the title Halo on this book that did nothing for the story except shit on already established characters just makes me question why they even tried.
With the upcoming Halo 5 and the audio dialogues Hunt the Truth, one would think the story would be in line with some part of the upcoming halo events, instead they threw away a part of the history they could have told better at a later time.
This book felt like cookie dough cutouts and very weak compared to my favorite books of all times Halo the Fall of Reach and Halo Ghosts of Onyx.
The one and only part of this book i found exciting was the monitor 000 Tragic Solitude but the minimal exposure to him as a monitor was irritating.
With all that said, i have listened to Halo the fall of reach through Halo Mortal Dictata, and out of the 9 i listened/ read this is the lowest halo story.
