"A ray of light, a stain of shadow, shall endure to breathe life and death into the future."
The war between the Guardians and the Shadow Riders ended in total devastation. The final battle killed all the dragons and left nothing but fields of ash. A small clutch of dragon eggs was all that remained to provide hope for the future.
Five hundred years later, the ability to use magic is a death sentence and dragons are remembered as a curse. But the unhatched dragons sing for their riders...and six lives will be changed forever.
The elements of magic are drawn together as the dragons' call leads them on a journey where they learn everything they've been taught to believe about magic and dragons is wrong. With the last of the dragons and the world at stake, they will risk everything to heed the call. But an evil from the past rises again. Shadow Dragons ride the dawn once more...

A Magical Journey

Any additional comments?

Get ready to lose yourself inside the enchanted world of Galdrilene, full of magic, dragons and engaging characters.

I am not a lover of fantasy books, however, this audio version captivated me from the minute I began to listen. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing to life all the characters and describes the make-believe world in such a fashion that you can’t help but find yourself immersed inside the story.

A land full of people of who for the last 500 hundred years, have been taught lies about their world, handed down from the ruling powers, bent on keeping the knowledge of magic and dragons hidden. Magic is forbidden and punishable by death and the fear of going insane if magic is used or cultivated by a user is drilled into the minds of the masses.

But six people from various regions cannot quell the hum that pounds in their heads. A pull to head east gnaws at them though none of them understand why or where it comes from. It isn’t until the appearance of a strange woman who offers each of them a chance to journey with her that they will all understand what calls to them, and why.

Full of vivid descriptions and enjoyable dialogue, this book by A.D. Trosper will appeal to lovers of fantasy as well as those who normally don’t read (or listen) to this particular genre. I found myself eager to be in the car listening to the magical tale unfold.

Fantastic Writing and Story Telling!

WOW...just let me say it again....WOW!!! I love dragon stories, but this one, is just AWESOME. The characters are so fleshed out and introduced with such an attention to detail that I never once got lost. Each one was unique and their abilities was so well suited to their personalities. The story is slowly built up; had me holding my breath at what was coming and it did not disappoint. You get to see the story from the POV of the characters and the dragons, it is so intricately woven that you don't even realize what is happening.
Of course there is Evil and you even get to see the story from their POV as well, which was very different, normally the Evil is just that mindlessly evil, not this time, its Evil, very Evil and can easily suck you in.
Even though the ending was more than satisfactory, ( the battle) you know there is more to come. I believe this is a trilogy.

Totally worth a credit. I am downloading the second book now!

difficult listen

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes with a warning about the narrator. Incorrect emphasis on words and irritating and unnecessary pauses detract from the story which is a pity.

Would you recommend Embers at Galdrilene to your friends? Why or why not?

As above

Would you be willing to try another one of Valerie Gilbert’s performances?

Gripping new saga

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Very few of my friends read books of this genre, that being said I would still recommend this to them. The premise of this story shares similarities with the inheritance cycle, but the characters the world in which this is set sets it apart from eragon. I like the diversity of the characters, they all have stories of their own to tell. However I think it would've been better to have a smaller core of characters to work on. I really liked the way the magicians had their powers split between the elements, this was also refected in the dragons.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Embers at Galdrilene?

When rylin, emallya's dragon emerges from the lake is a good moment.

Have you listened to any of Valerie Gilbert’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No too long for that

Any additional comments?

The dragons deserve more of the spotlight, I want to know what they are thinking.
