Publisher's summary

Zohar, an ancient land of sand and splendor, rallies for its last stand. The genocidal Aelarian Empire sends its legions to destroy the small desert kingdom. King Epher and his band of rebels stand against a fire they cannot extinguish. And it is Claudia herself, once Epher's paramour, who leads the legions tasked with killing him.

Across the sea, in the Empire's capital, a cruel new emperor has seized power. Atalia Sela, once the leader of a barbarian horde, now fights in the arena as a gladiator. Ofeer Sela, once a concubine and now a rebel, seeks to free her sister. Meanwhile, Seneca and Valentina, the children of fallen dynasties, still battle for the city, and their inevitable clash draws near.

Around the Encircled Sea, warlords, rebels, and legionaries battle for dominance. Sometimes it seems like the fire will always burn. Yet heroes still rise, fighting for a dream of peace, for memories of solace, and for lingering echoes of light.

Disappointed

The story line could have gone in so many directions. The directions it went was disappointing. Too many main characters died and all Main characters were to whiney. Ending was crap.

Epic Tragedy

Man, swore I would write a bad review if the evil in this book went unanswered. But in reality, this book is the most realistic look at how evil persist no matter how many evil people receive some measure of justice in the end. The battle between the light and the shadows it caste never ends. And the unrelenting balance between the two is a sobering reminder that neither ever truly prevails. The swing of the pendulum is relentless and ruthless. Profound and sad. Good book. Damn good but probably won't read this one again. The imagery is stuck with me. No need to relive it.

great narrator horrible series

1st. the narrator did a great job
2nd. the author had great ideas but didn't excute it properly.
3rd. this series sucked. I listen to all 6 books ( Dallas blizzard) and I have returned off of them
spoilers... only 2 main characters actually had development. korin and Seneca. seneca became the only interesting character cause he struggled, learned from mistakes and tried to be better I actually liked the guy by the end and felt bad for him. Korin was always true to his character he never repeated mistakes and struggled with becoming someone he isn't.
4th everything about the light, magic, god and how special is the city. didn't mean shit when the magic doesn't help. mya the apparent savior of the zohar people died for bring stupid.ephlam the last king. kept making stupid decisions, contradicting himself and whine. omg this series had all the characters whine about BS. outside of korin. just don't water your money on this series

great idea but it didn't grown

this stupid king was too righteous to kill the slaves building a ramp so that his enemies could kill him and his people but then he ended up killing all of them his wife and himself!!! The bad guys just kept winning over and over !!! no break for the good guys. what's the sense in not making any of the characters grow? it's a great idea for a story but the writer mad a ash of it and kill the good guys in very nonsensical ways. there was no need for magic or for even introducing dark magic cause it helped no one!!! I only listened to the entire series because I was hoping that things would have changed but it was more war and more killing of good people and more silly decisions!

Dissapointing

Plebian Ending to an otherwise grand tale. Too many aspects remain unrequited. Hoping for more than "life goes on. "

Plagiarizing History

Areson must have lost his storytelling talent that he must plagiarize those Nations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Even using the Jewish last stand at Masada. Shameful writing, Daniel Areson has become a fraud shamefully stealing from history to find his stories.

I am filled with disgust as I spent hard earned money purchasing these 6 books. I was hooked until he copied the Jewish stand at Masada. I had formerly been a Daniel Areson fan avidly enjoying the Requiem novels recommending his work.

Credit must be given though as Areson fleshed his characters adding individuals throughout his six plagiarized novels. Historical fiction should have credibility not parallels.

Not again, Daniel Areson, not again.
