Publisher's summary

EMP: Equipping Modern Patriots is a harrowing story of survival after the destruction of the electric grid and nearly every electronic device in the country. Jonathan Hollerman paints a vivid and disturbing picture of society falling apart after an Electromagnetic Pulse attack against our nation.

Can you imagine a world with no phones, no TV, no internet, and no way to access your bank account? Without the electric grid, there would be no lights, no heating or air conditioning in your home, no public water, and the sewer could back up into your home. Without modern vehicles or interstate trucking, the supermarkets would quickly run out of food. Since the majority of the military is not hardened against an EMP, they would be unable to come to the aid of its citizens and maintain order. Our humanity is questioned when survival of the fittest becomes reality.

This is not only a thrilling story but offers practical, life-saving advice for an imminent threat. If you enjoyed Patriots by James Wesley Rawles or One Second After by William Forstchen, then you will enjoy this story of survival.

another EMP based series

The only thing I didn't like about the book is the spiritual/religious moments. The author is clearly Christian oriented, which is fine in itself, but there is a strong influence written in the book and I struggled to get thru those moments. I do NOT mean to say that the author preaches, but there are several moments of prayer and other religious aspects that could have been restrained a bit. additionally, and likely due to the religious aspect, there is very little vulgarity written in, which is not realistic. Other than that, the book has some interesting insights within the story of survival.

Starts great, never fully developed

Okay, I like the Teotwawki genre but it has a problem that is epitomized in this book, it starts out great, then as the world falls apart so does the story, it seems to be a problem for this book and the genre as a whole. I like the writing, the characters are good and are really starting to get developed when things end, I know we are being set up for a sequel but I am tired of a story ending almost in mid sentence. That said I will listen to the sequel when it comes out so maybe I am the problem here. If you like "the end of the world as we know it" type of books you will find you like this book in spite of yourself, recommended but with the caveat that you are not getting the ending in this book.

Very good security info

Amazon Top 10 Bestseller

I see why is this book is on the bestseller list.
The only issue I have with most of these novels is it seems the main characters, or team members, always seem to have tens of thousands of dollars already spent on retreats, or ranches, or cabins surrounded by acres of land, stockpiles of food, firearms, and water sources.
Overlooking the existing advantages in the story, this book was exciting, and captured my attention to the very end.

An enjoyable and somewhat educational book

I found myself pausing and looking up items mentioned. I enjoyed the story and it gave me a number of things to think about if something really bad happened. Not sure I buy into the EMP total collapse theory, but it did promote thoughts of what could happen. I will be reading/listening to the next installment.

Just get it

I've read several other books that are very similar, e.g. The Patriot and the Going home series, and this is definitely one if my favorites. I resisted buying it because I thought the cover was too cheesy, but it was totally worth it and give perspectives not scene in other books.

Amazing story

There are a lot of prepper books out there that seem kind of like “eh it’s a cool thought but I’m not quite sold.” This story however, it just feels real, possibly because it’s all very relatable to the reader in some way or the other, whether it be the characteristics, point of view, development, or maybe just the way something plays out, or even the level of common sense used with logic and emotion. Someway the reader can relate and become engulfed in the story. I should note that I got this book on a whim before I made a drive across the US from the Atlantic shoreline to the Pacific shoreline and then back. What I thought would be nothing more than background noise on my audiobook came to be the thing I focused on most.

Who are the looters?

If 'Christian' gets to the deserted store first, before the "looters", and packs off with thousands of dollars in goods, isn't the Christian the first looter? These characters believe they are superior... and they are not. Maybe three stars are too many?

I've read lots of "end times" books. The best is "Alas Babylon". It doesn't bombard with product names and gun types.. and has a deep sense of humanity that this effort does not convey.
