Publisher's summary

Stormfall is a dragon born with a coat the color of a starry night. When a violent storm strikes his island aerie, he is carried on hurricane winds into the complicated and sometimes cruel world of men. There, his journey takes him from fisher dragon to farmer, pit-fighting dragon to warrior, each step leading him closer to a remarkable destiny. But war is coming to the land of Remus, and with it a crossroads for the Night Dragon and the young soul-boy he allows on his back. How far is Stormfall willing to go in a war that is not his own?

Awesome!! Original story line! Made my top 5

Written from a dragons point of view. I finished it in a day and a half.

Great story!
My kids will be listening to this story again and again. They love dragons as it is and this was such a good story my wife and I can enjoy it too.

Lovely story

A well imagined world populated by interesting characters, reflective of the world we live in, but very different. I enjoyed it tremendously and would have liked to have had the final years in the wild fleshed out more.

It almost works... but not quite

I really, really wanted to like this book. It has all the elements which make for a great fantasy novel: an interesting point of view (the dragon), a world with some unexpected magical elements; an evolving relationship between dragon and rider. It even has a narrator whose work I generally like. But it doesn't quite come together. The fact that the dragon doesn't speak but thinks in words was off-putting; at times he feels interestingly alien, at times, a bit too human. The backstory of the dragon's early life runs through several chapters, each of which ends just before you start to get to know the characters and identify with them. The main relationship between the dragon and his rider starts, stops, starts again, then stops again... and you never quite see the growth in either that makes their journey satisfying. Reading this book was a bit like watching a poorly edited movie with some interesting scenes. It was somehow less than the sum of the parts.

Unique but...

The idea for this book was great, definitely something new, but unfortunately once you finish chapter 2 the book seems to be stuck on repeat. The majority of the book reflects the first 2 chapters with the same issues, different place and it really takes away from the enjoyment. Once the reader gets closer to the end of the book it finally starts to have new material, but then the book should be called "The Hypocritical Dragon".
Overall I did enjoy the idea that the book brought, but it was hard getting through the middle of the book. After the middle I personally thought the dragon was more irritating than cool and the ending was very predictable.
I'd say this book would be good for kids, but there is a bit of violence so it would be hard to pin this book to any age group.

This dragon's for real

This is one of those books that's made for audio format. I was immersed in this imagined world of dragons and sticks (people). The lyricism that John Lee draws out in every sentence is just great - really a beautiful story of love and loss and everything in between. And lots of dragons! Highly recommended.
