Publisher's summary

A classic TV soundtrack adventure starring Tom Baker.

The TARDIS materialises on a planet where the age of prosperity comes often, and precious jewels line the streets like litter. Overseeing the citizens is the bombastic Captain, half human and half machine. Lurking in shadows are the Mentiads, mysterious cowled figures who set their sights on certain individuals and claim them for their own.

As the Doctor, Romana and K9 become entangled in local events they are caught between the apparently insane Captain and apparently sinister Mentiads. But then the Doctor makes a terrible discovery beneath the surface of the planet, and realises the true nature of the Captain's operations.

Soon yet another planet comes under threat from the Captain, one which the Doctor knows well: Earth. Can he manage to save it from a terrible fate?

Features linking narration from John Leeson, who recalls his time as the Voice of K9 in a special bonus interview.

Classic Sci Fi

What can I say? The Fourth Doctor Tom Baker in a story by Douglas Adams, this is classic science fiction! I'm a fan of the audio stories Tom Baker has been doing to keep the Fourth Doctor very much alive and well. While searching for one of those stories I came across The Pirate Planet written by Douglas Adams of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fame. Now this is basically the episodes that aired on TV with some added narration to help explain some of the made for TV action so if you have seen these episodes then you have heard this episode minus the new added narration. This story has humor and action the way only Douglas Adams could cram together and it has Tom Baker who is arguably the best Doctor. This also includes a sort of interview after the story is over. I'm just a big Tom Baker as Dr. Who fan as well as a Hitchhikers fan, if you are too then you're gonna enjoy the hell out of this audio recording of Doctor Who: The Pirate Planet.

Good as on TV!

I watched this on TV and it was pretty good! The narration didn't detract ONE bit from its original interest!
